What if Robert Chambers joined the forums?

SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,102 ✭✭✭✭✭
A post to a recent thread commented that Robert Chambers may lurk on the forums. That got me to thinking. What if he joined the forums, identified himself and started posting? How would you treat him? Would you flame him to death; would you welcome him; would you try to have a civil discussion with him; would you simply call him names? Your thoughts and comments will be a most interesting read.

If he lurks these forums, he is likely aware of the general disdain that the community here holds for him. Even if he lives on these boards, if he has even an ounce of common sense, he wouldn't post here.

What my inquiring mind would like to know from RC would be what the Coin Vault pays for the product they sell, where they buy their product from, what his stake in Coin Vault is, how Coin Vault sets its buy prices, what he and Coin Vault really think of the persons who buy product from them, who creates the scripts he and his on camera partners read for each product line that they sell, whether the scripts are reviewed and approved in advance by lawyers, whether he or anyone associated with Coin Vault collects coins, whether he or anyone at Coin Vault has ever purchased any of the products they sell, who bankrolls the Coin Vault operation and what the monthly income and expenses of Coin Vault have been since it went on the air.
  • It would be more appropriate that he post over there, since Coin Vault and NGC are in bed together.
(I mean, have partnered together to bring America some great coin investment opportunities.)

  • Why would he come here. He has no interest in coins. He's a hypster who sells whatever makes a buck. If he cared about coins and collectors he couldn't do what he does best.
  • He speaks of PCGS population numbers when he is on SAH. You have to be signed up with PCGS in order to obtain these numbers right? Curiosity would make him click the forums link I'm sure. I'll agree with the other folks and say he wouldn't post here and I wouldn't doubt that he lurks. With the wealth of information on this forum I'm sure he zooms by from time to time to see if there is any new information that he could use to sell his coins.

I would really like to know what " Latest Leading Numismatic Catalog" he is refering to when he prices his coins. Every catalog I look at prices the coins he sells for 40% less.

Correction, TV coin conman. A real detriment to collecting.
  • I doubt he reads this given the vast number of misstatements they put forth every show, at least the ones I have seen.

They don't buy their coins from NGC. I think they buy their coins from Silvertowne. They don't look at numismatics as anything other then something to market to make money. They have to figure out what their customers want with the caveat that there is enough product available to bother selling it. They also need to double their money in order to make it worthwihile. Selling on TV like that is very expensive. One thing they sell is 1986-2004 Silver Eagle sets NGC MS-69 for about $900. My guess is that they pay $500 for the sets. In their minds it's no different then selling jewelry, umbrellas or place mats. Just about moving product and making money.

Confessed "Preppie Killer" Robert Chambers, left, leaves
Auburn Correctional Facility in Auburn, N.Y., Feb. 14, 2003.
Chambers served the maximum time on his
manslaughter conviction for killing Jennifer Levin on Aug. 26, 1986.

'Preppie Killer' released from prison after serving 15-year sentence

By William Kates / Associated Press February 15, 2003

AUBURN, N.Y. -- Robert Chambers, the Preppie Killer who strangled a young woman during a tryst in Central Park in 1986, was released from prison Friday after serving his full 15-year sentence for manslaughter.

Wearing a red sweater and green pants, Chambers, now 36, ignored reporters as he walked out of the state prison at Auburn.

Chambers confessed to strangling Jennifer Levin, an 18-year-old he had met at a trendy bar in New York City. He claimed he killed her accidentally during rough sex; prosecutors said he was drunk and high on drugs and killed her in a rage when he was unable to perform sexually.

On the eve of his release, he issued a statement of regret through his lawyer.

"There has not been a day since Jennifer Levin's death that I have not regretted my actions on that day," he said. "I know that the Levin family continues to suffer her loss, and I am deeply sorry for the grief I have caused them."

He also said he would like to pursue a college degree and begin paying the $25 million won by the Levin family in a wrongful-death lawsuit.

Chambers could have gotten out as much as six years ago but amassed 27 disciplinary violations behind bars, including heroin possession and assaulting a guard. He spent a third of his time in solitary and was rejected for parole five times.

Levin's relatives were dreading the prospect of Chambers' release.

"I don't think you can teach a person in any prison situation or anywhere how to have a conscience, and Robert Chambers does not have a conscience. And that makes him dangerous," Ellen Levin, the victim's mother, said Thursday on NBC's "Today" show.

The slaying was splashed across New York City's tabloids in the summer of 1986 as a story of privileged youth gone bad. Chambers, a college dropout with a taste for cocaine, was Hollywood handsome. The victim was a pretty private-school student from a well-to-do family. And the rough-sex defense produced lurid headlines.

Chambers pleaded guilty to manslaughter after the jury in his murder trial deliberated for nine days and prosecutors feared a deadlock.

Shamika and UncleJoe, look Behind The Green Door to find the answers to your questions.

What if Tom Chambers (the 1987 NBA Allstar Game MVP (40+ points in that game), and a 6"11" bad ass white boy pure scoring machine from the University Of Utah and from Fairview high school in Boulder, Colorado) joined the forums?

Any other Chambers of notariety out there who could join the forums?

Seriously though, if he wanted to talk about anything other than the
show he couldn't identify himself. I wouldn't mind seeing him but the
first time he repeated himself I'd never read another of his posts.
