A small local coin shop has all their graded coins marked at Coin World Trends values. Is there any coin you feel is a good deal at these prices? What material would you look for?-------------------------------------BigE

Buy all the properly graded key & semi key date Mercs you can find in AU50 to MS63image
  • Depends how well they grade. If they overgrade forget it, but if they undergrade there might be some deals still there.

    Absolutely.

Just a few of many, many possibilities:

    1824 quarters in any grade
    1801 and 1802 halves
    1884 and 1885 3 cent nickels
    1879, 80 and 81 Shield Nickels
    1796 and 97 half dimes

    ....etc, etc.

Trends is waaay low on a lot of material. I will pay full Trends for any of the above items and still make money. Got any for sale?

  • BigE, I predict that they will NOT have any of the coins that I mentioned. They are truly rare in today's marketplace. But...you never know. Ya might get lucky.

I have noticed that in Lincoln cents the Coin Values magazine prices are higher than in any other guide I know of for most dates and grades.

I haven't seen CoinValues lately, but they used to be too low on most early Lincolns. Looking through ebay completed auctions I'd see something like a pcgs ms64rd 17-p bought immediately for $45 with a BIN. The seller would state CoinValues says $50. It's really a $100+ coin (I paid $117 for mine image ) The seller lost a lot of money by not knowing the market. I've learned not to look at completed auctions much because it always is annoying to see deals you missed out on!
  • A 1917 Lincoln in MS64 Red is worth about $30 according to the CDN.

I just looked through some Heritage auction because they have the Trends prices there, and it looks like Trends has updated a bunch. Coppercoins is right. Actaully they may price some too high now. Good job Trends (sarcastically) leaving everything too low for 2 years and then moving what they do finally update too high.

A lot of Coin Values modern MS prices are laughably low.

One of the most humorous is the '83-P quarter in MS-63 is listed at $8. An MS-60 wholesales at $25.

Be careful with the MS-63 prices for other dates. While these all retail for much more some are nearly
impossible to sell wholesale because they're too common compared to the demand.
