Guess How Many 1909-S VDB's in the upcoming Heritage Sale

I play this game with myself, and I thought I would cut the board in. Without peeking, in the 500+ page Heritage Palm Beach Sale catalog, how many lots are the classic American rarity 1909-S VDB?

My guess: 14

    I don't know if this is the point you're trying to make, but as a point of comparison check out how many of the following: PF DCAM 3CN's in all date/grades, MS Seated Dollars (non-circ, non-PF; any date/grade including the 59-O and 60-O), MS67+ Liberty 5C (any date, including the 1883 N/C), MS65+ DMPL CC Morgans (any date), MS65+ Ike Dollars (any date, clad only) and 1931-S 1c (any date, any grade).

    I've never owned an SVDB, and probably never will unless I get it as a result of a weird situation...

    The answer is 28!!! Considering that it is the great American rarity, there are quite a few of them out there.

    I was going to give a Dahlonega coin of the winner's choosing to whomever guess it right on the button, bit since no one did...image

    This coin is NOT a rairity.

    It is rare in circulated grade because they were all pulled from circulation very early but as an uncirculated item it is one of the most common of the pre 1940 era cents. It is rarer in AU or less.

    A lot of us who collected in the 50s and 60 found this to be the hardest to find in circulated grade. Now that some of these guys have money they still think its the rarest coin in existance and by owning it in MS65 that they have somehow "arrived" at the epitome of coin collecting. My Guess is that less than one in 50 of them actually reside in a set of equal quality since the other cents that are pre-1920 are much harder to locate in MS65 grade.

    28 09-s VDB's! I will guess that there aren't that many Dahlonega coins [all dates, denominations or any condition] in the entire sale. Since my catalogue just came in I'll start counting.

    I was wrong.
    4 gold dollars
    10 quarter eagles
    2 three's
    17 five's
    for an unofficial total of 33 coins. Many are noted to be 'problem' coins.

    Who ever said the 1909-S VDB is a great rarity? 8000 graded by PCGS, 2500 more by NGC.

    More correctly, it's a great collector coin.

    Most overrated, overpriced Lincoln in the series in my opinion.
