Last spring at a small local auction, I bought a $10 Indian and 1941-S WL Half for $275 and $75 respectively. Both coins made MS65 and sold for $4,500 and $1,450 respectively.
Same auction, the one that got away: A roll of BU Morgans. I never looked at them as someone else was looking and said that they were all 1878. Well after they sold, the guy that bought them for 7TF money mentioned that they were all 8TF. He made a nice bundle. By the way, it wasn't the guy mentioned earlier in this paragraph. My lesson: Work harder.
These two I consider my best " rips ". The Peace Dollar is VG that I bought raw ( still is currently ) and the dealer appairently didn`t notice it was a VAM 3. The Morgan Dollar is graded MS66 by PCGS and bought for $195. It`s actually a solid chance for a grade of MS67.
Well, I had a few good turns. One was a 1955 mint set I paid $125 for. One half slabbed at 66fl, the other at 65 and sold for a good amount each. Had one quarter go 66 and got some good money there. And two 66rd cents.
Had a 1958 mint set with some great coins I showed here. Two monster franklins went 66fl, one of the roosies went 67fb, and the quarter went 66. Paid just over $200 for that set.
Also had some luck with a 67 sms set for $17 which had a quarter go 68cam.
Back a few years ago, I was in a coin shop in Indiana. The dealer offered me a set of Jefferson nickels in a dansco album. Nice coins, but I told him that I was not intrested. I did happen to like the 39-d Jefferson a lot as it was extremely lusterous and fully stepped and needed one. Well he didnt want to break up the set, so I went on about my business, Looking through a box of stuff, I located a nice 16-p walking liberty half in Ms-62. He was aking 150.00 for the coin so I bought on the condition that he sell me the 39-d for an additional 50.00 out of that set and replace it with another in his box which he did. When I got back home, sent it into pcgs where it graded Ms-67FS. At the time thier were only two at that level I believe. Sold it on E-bay for 900.00

And, you know what, spent barely $250 total on these coins raw!
