Approaching 1000 posts and 2 years - BUT - I need your help...

Check out this photo:

I am STILL having the hardest time getting these photos right - the color is all wrong. The background should be white. I think if I photo-shopped them and adjusted the color to white, it might look better but I like to show original unshopped photos. HOW DO I MAKE THE PIC LOOK LIKE THE COIN.

This photo was taken using 2 light sources: halogen and "reveal" 75 watt.

This is getting SO frustrating

  • Look around in your camera's settings... you may have to set the shooting mode to manual, but you should be able to find white balance in the menus somewhere...

Yep, "white balance" should be set to "indoor" or similar setting. you may want to shoot several pics with the settings in different modes (take notes on which pics were taken on which settings) and then compare which settings give which results afterwards.

these pics were taken with the camera in the "indoor" setting. light grey background behind the slab..

  • With my camera... when you change the white balance setting, you can see the change of color on the LCD...

You either need to set up the camera's white balance to incandescent/indoor or learn some color correction in a photo retouching tool. The auto-levels in photoshop can usually get you mostly there. But it takes some experience to do the fine touch tinkering. I know you like non-photoshopped pics but when it makes the image more accurate it's OK.
