I think that my collector's club MS69 SAE is overgraded

I was amused to find that my SAE isn't as high a grade as the slab would suggest. I personally don't care that much as it was a freebie. That's a pretty big hit on her hip. I could easily see it without magnification.

I had a PCGS MS 69 2004 SAE with a huge scratch on the reverse in the left field.

Mine came with spots all over it? Where's the Quality Control? Because it's a Freebie it doesn't matter? I don't know, this is all new to me. Lee

The general consensus is that a great deal of collector club slabs are overgraded.

I pretty much look at these as sample slabs, the coin may not match the grade. If I were collecting BU Eagles in MS-69 I would not add Collectors Club coins to that set.

When I joined they were giving pocket change New York quarters in 65 slabs.

Yeah, mine had a massive hit that obliterated the better part of her face from the jawline on up. I ebayed that sucker almost as soon as I got it. I recently bought a few birth year SAE's for the kids in the family, and those -- out of rolls the guy at the show had, handled fairly carelessly from the looks of things, picked up with fingers on the faces and jammed into paper envelopes -- on average look a bit better.

My guess is they just open a tube and start sealing

Last year they were all MS68's so instead of sending out undergraded coins, they decided to make the labels all MS69 this year.

Here's the good part. The slab says 2004, but the coin is a 2001

Most of the old PCGS sample slabs are undergraded. Today they don't put grades on most samples.

The one I got for CC had a 3 point reed hit on the reverse and damage on the obverse. I sent it back and they sent me a much better one at no cost (even shipping).
