How do you feel about KeepingSelling an upgraded coin?

The flip side of the coin

Now you've had this coin for a while and its an attractive coin but not one you need in any set you have. It's price has gone up a lot over the last few years and you know yours is PQ You have no reason to sell it. You send a few coins in for grading and think, hmmm why not send it too. Now the grades come back and your attractive 64 is now in a 66 holder. You think its overgraded now but it's value is way more than anything you thought. You show it around and get some bigtime offers. What do you do with it?

Keep it because its still the same coin
Sell it fast because its now low end and has nowhere to go and you can use the money for a lot of coins you need
Sell it but be sure you let them know it was just upgraded.
Put it in an auction because you don't want to sell an upgraded coin to anyone you know.

Oh one more..... crack it out and send it back till it gets the proper gradeimage

If I sent it in for the purpose of selling and it came back a higher grade than I expected. I would reap the benefits and sell it? I may or may not necessarily disclose it, If asked I would be up front, but if not, than thats for the future buyer to decide whether he/she agress with the grade assigned by the TPG and more importantly the asking price.

This is simple. If I were to send a coin into a TPG I have NO OTHER PURPOSE but to sell it. If I were to keep the coin why the hell would I waste the money sending it in? Especially if it is already in a holder....makes no sense to me. I have better places to spend my hard earned dough.

I just auctioned a coin like this. I thought it was overgraded by a point, and said so right in the description. It still brought great money.

This is why I droped out of collecting coins in the late 80's (plus a divorace) and I'd hope they had a handle on it with PCGS and NGC. I guess that's why I collect mainly Gold in AU condition. I do have a complete set of Franklins in by PCGS and a few NGC in MS64 FBL or MS 65/66 if they were too high in FBL. I think I'm taking a risk with the FBL's since the times change over the decades. I'm a collector so circulated coins are fine.

I went to pocket watches which at this time are like coins in the 60's I also work on them so if anyone has questions about them I may be able to help. Guns and knifes are my other collections.
  • If it's a coin you don't need and you know it's low grade for the slab it's in, then sell that thing as fast as possible for at or near top dollar for the slab that it's in.

  • I guess there must not be too many collectors getting upgrades these days.

Someone might seek an upgrade on a coin they plan to keep if it is in a registry set...

Upgrade --> higher registry points --> everyone is more impressed.

Why would you feel the need to mention that it was upgraded? If it was graded 5 years ago would you feel compelled to mention that too? If they asked I would tell, but otherwise I fail to see the point of offering the info. If smoetime in the next couple of months there develops a problem like prints then the info is certainly relevant.

if the coin is solid or still high end for the grade and the coin has exceptional extraspecial qualities and killer eye appeal

and most importantly i liked it and it fit with my collecting interests

    i would keep it
