Smoking E-Bay Sellers

How much does one have to smoke in order to make a paper invoice small like cigarettes?

I received two coins in the last two days and both stunk (literally). The coins were nice but the mailer and packing slips reeked like cigartettes. Sheesh.

I got a bunch of Canadian cased dollars and proof-like sets that smelled like ash trays. I suspect chain smoking will do that to anything in your house or office.

I smoke, and you've never complained about the stuff you bought from me.

Maybe because I only smoke outside. image

I actually had a medal shipped to me in a Marlboro box (no, not the whole carton) ... from Russia. Thrice I've received items shipped in cigar boxes (2 from S. America and 1 US). I've also had them sent in packages which had formerly held chocolate-covered cherries, ice cream bars, microwave pizzas. I've even received a coin from a fellow board member wrapped in static protection material ... no shock other than that (and no smell at all). image

I got called away before finishing my first post. Anyway, at least the main coin is very, very nice:

No problems with the picture on my end.
Its an 1824 Waldeck-Pyrmont (Germany state) 1/3 thaler in a PCGS MS66 holder.

  • Sounds really nice.image For some reason I have a hard time viewing some of the hosted images here.
Also I saw that toned Thaler you posted on the open forum. It was absolutely stunning.

The picture is red-X for me, too. image

I'm usually pretty fond of the stuff you post as well. I think the medieval Venitian stuff owould have to be my favorites.

Well, we've at least bounded the question asked in the first post. To make an invoice stink you must smoke more than LordMarcovan.

I hate receiving coins that reek of cigarettes. I have some circulated walkers that I received free (so I shouldn't complainimage) that smell awful. The stench is actually on the coin (not just the invoice/packaging).

I get the dreaded red X now myself. Damn computers will be the death of us all.

Hey, now it's showing. Very nice.

On that thaler: holy cr@p, what a coin!!! imageimageimage

Amazing colors. Funny how redundant the obverse and reverse designs are, though- they almost look the same.

This is one of my pet peeves as well. I give the smoky coins a good bath in acetone.

I can top that one, although it isn't coin related. I received an envelope at school Friday from the parent of a student. The envelope contained a few checks and patrons for the yearbook. When the secretary opened it she said she almost threw up due to the cigarette smell. What made this a worse offence is the parent who sent the envelope in is a RN. image

  • I have received things that just reek of smoke also. I find it such a foul stench! I just can't for the life of me understand how anybody intentionally sucks such a foul smelling, poison filled chemical plume into their lungs!!!

  • Hmm this is interesting and it takes me back to the days when i was at school. I used to get dropped off at my grandad's every morning for a few hours, and after a few weeks all my school books, clothes yada yada all reeked to high heaven of cigarette smoke, the paper was particularly bad... some of it even developed a tinge of yellow.

Vile stuff, i have never smoked though and my purpose in life is to get through it without coming near to any more cigarettes, if i never see one again i'll be a happy happy man.
  • I can't get the picture no matter what I try - when I right click and look at "properties" it has http://boards.collectors.society.com//attachments/... shouldn't it be http://forums.collectors.com//attachments/...?

The photos are linked from across the street in this thread, maybe you can view them directly. The thaler is about 40% of the way down and the 1/3 thaler at the very end.

I think the problem with the pic is that the addy ends with a minus sign; that usually indicates more info follows.

Anyway, that's really a neat coin!! image
