$2,000,000 coin on eBay

nencoinnencoin Posts: 1,240 ✭✭✭✭
I just noticed this (auction ended September 29)...sorry if this was already posted/discussed. Here's a $2 million coin that was on eBay: Linkage

Somewhat interesting is how I found it. eBay is still linking to the auction from their coins home page: Linkage. Look on the right side of the page, nearer the bottom. Those links/icons alternate, and I guess eBay has forgotten to take this one down.

Anyway, it's not often you see a $2 million coin on eBay.

Does this speak to E-Bays inability to sell coins at this price or was the starting bid unrealistically high? (which would make it less than a $2,000,000.00 coin...)

The seller is unknown to me; is he a person of note in the coin community? Did his zero feedback play a part in the no sale?

The seller is Steve Contursi's company, the same company that owns the dollar that many claim was the first Dollar struck. I imagine they listed the coin simply for more exposure.

It's just a way to hype the coin. The coin has gotten more coverage in CW that I can believe. Both times it was listed on ebay, CW ran an article about it. I don't think they really believed the coin would sell.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Hi,

Hummmmmm… $2,000,000 for a coin, being sold by a zero feedback ebayer with no history, sounds like a good deal to me!

Actually, all kidding aside... I wonder what the high bid would be or it would go for with an opening bid of $1.00 & a reserve of $2,000,000???

    Have a good day now,
    Anthony
