Why I Don't Judge Images As An Absolute.... **Bust Half Images Inside**

I picked up this Bust Half some time ago. With all the technology skill, and great images we see here on the forum.
I believe we sometimes get spoiled and when a dull lifeless scan is seen, we look at such an image
as it absolutely is what the image depicts. Nothing fancy here. When I saw the sellers image......
It looks just dull, dark, and lifeless. But this is the kind of crusty "Look" I seek when considering buying a Bust Half.
When I received the coin I really wasn't surprised as it looked pretty much as expected.
I say this because I took the time to get a good read on the scan before purchasing the piece.
It was described as having nice cartwheel luster.
So after having this for a while I decided this coin deserved a nice picture and sent it to Russ.
Anyway just trying to be helpful and thought at least some of the Bust collectors would appreciate this.
I think she looks much better now..... Do you agree?

1) Is there some doubling in the date??
2) What's the eagle smoking ??
You so bring up a good point that improved lively lustrous & colorful digital photographs (vs. dull lifeless scans) are a much more effective way to sell your coins for top dollar!
I'm sure that Frank and Jeremy will agree!!

What's the eagle smoking?
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
buying via an image. return policies are a must!

But, if buying from images on the net, the second photo is much better to see the detail of the coin.
Nice Bust half.

Stuart.... unfortunately I don't have the coin in front of me to accurately answer your question.
I don't recall any doubling in the date. So what you are seeing could be.....
The lighting when the picture was taken, or some pull away toning, or you're drunk.
As far as what the eagle is smoking? I'll let your imagination figure it out!!!!
Personally, I never buy anything from an image. Either I look at the coin in person, or someone whom I trust looks it over. IMO, buying from an image is the same as buying it sight unseen.

<< <i>Question; does the coin really have that much violet in it? >>
Good question. I don't have the coin in front of me. I believe the image is very close.
I guess it would depend on which way the coin is tilted. Thanks for the nice comments on the coin folks.
My main intention of the thread was I believe if many people seen the first image they would say "Nope, dark no luster etc. etc.
I like to try and "Read" a scan to try and figure out if it's what I'm looking for.
I bought a half-dime on eBay that had a flat dark scan in the photo and when I got it, it was a beautiful rainbow toned monster.

What do you think the difference in pics and quality (nice job Russ ) would be compared to auction bidding ?
(if you were to put up two auctions, one with the first pic and the other with Russ' pic)

I believe the answer to this question is easy. Of course the first (scan) picture would bring much more money.
