NTC overgrades

Is it me or does NTC overgrade by at least two grades? Saw an eBay auction for an NTC graded MS 63 1941s walker but to me looked like it was AU at best. How many of you observed this?

It's definitely NOT just you. Two grades is one of their closer calls, IMO.

I don't know how you could say such a thing. There have been at least a dozen threads about what a top-notch company NTC is.

  • Search "NTC" and you will see.

  • Sorry Xpipedream I realise that now. Haven't visited the boards for some time. Had a lull for a while with the hobby but now I'm back full swing.

Let me tell you how far off they can be:

A local dealer in my area who swears by them sent in a few coins to be graded. Here's how they came back

1906 Indian (Ms-62RB at best, heavy carbon) NTC Ms-66R
1955 DD 1c (Obvious cleaning) NTC Au-55 No mention of cleaning
1853 Gold$ (Nice luster, but planchet issue limits to 63IMO, maybe 64 ) NTC Ms-66
    1885 Liberty 5c (Light corrosion evident ) F-12

Unless you REALLY know how to grade and recognize problem coins, and you are able to buy them for what they really are, my advice is to stay away from NTC coins.
    When in doubt, don't.
