If PayPal were a bank, they'd

be out of business.

Still can't get into PayPal. This is NOT the way to run a business. ESPECIALLY when you host a database of CC nos. AND electronic links to your bank accounts.

No excuses, this level of service is KRAP.

Nothing is perfect & these things sometimes happen with any business. I'm not saying it's OK, I'm just saying this happens. image

I can't fathom how a company with millions of customers, handling hundreds of millions of dollars can go live with a major systems update and have no contingency or rollback plan in place. There is no viable excuse for five days of outages. A few hours, perhaps even a day. But, five days? Something is seriously wrong.

Right about now, I'm glad I've always made it a habit of sweeping the money out of my account as soon as it arrives.

  • Paypal should offer a free fee's day to make up for this??? I'm sure it won't happen---but they should offer something for this poor service. Yeah---I know some more poor service. Can't wait until there's a viable competitor for paypal.image

never have been bought by eBay. What can you expect from a company that starts out arrogant and is then bought by the DEFINING company of arrogance.

If only a ..... bank ...... WOULD get the idea that the worthless PoorPay has a service that could be profitable AND accomodative of its customers.

I have this fantasy that the Chairman of Citicorp or BoFA are PayPal users, are very pissed off right now and are very vindictive.

Just paid for two auctions, seems to be working fine now.

What kind of impact has this had on E-Bay do you suppose? Little or enough to thoroughly bollox matters up?

There have been small windows where the site has worked, but it's still in the toilet.

I can't believe they don't have a working back-up in place. Whatever is going wrong over there started with their Friday morning "upgrade". Why on earth wouldn't they just revert back to whatever they were using on Thursday?

  • What happened they went past the point of no return. SO they cannot do a rollback.
Since there is no signed contracts with clients they are not required to be online a stated amount of time.

I not surprised at all. PayPal is now owned and controlled by eBay, who has never heard of the phrase if it ain't broke don't fix it. They can't help themselves from "updating" their site, and every time they do it means days of outages.
  • ***PayPal Site Update***
Date: 10/12/04 Time: 10:49:03 AM PDT

We understand the PayPal site issues may be impacting many of you and your ability to do business with PayPal on and off eBay, and we apologize for this situation. We would like to update you on the current status and the efforts being made to resolve these issues.
Today, access to PayPal continues to be intermittent. Some members are able to log in to the site and make payments and perform other activities, although they may be experiencing very slow system responses. Other members are not able to get in right away, or at all. PayPal users may also be having problems with their debit cards.

Sellers who use PayPal shipping functionality may be having problems shipping products to their buyers, and buyers may be experiencing difficulties paying sellers. We encourage members to be patient with trading partners as we work to improve PayPal access.

These PayPal issues are the result of unforeseen problems that resulted when a new code base to upgrade the site architecture was introduced to the PayPal platform on Friday morning. The code worked well when tested and during the first hours of launch. Unfortunately, problems handling peak levels of traffic developed later in the day that created intermittent availability and errors for members. These problems have continued in varying degrees since Friday.

Account data and personal information have not been compromised by these issues. eBay and PayPal technical teams are working at full force to fix the underlying problems and improve site access.

We will continue to update you on the status of this situation.

    Regards,
    eBay

  • There's no way this is a simple "upgrading error in coding". They're being DDOS attacked, not like they'd admit it though.
They should offer some sort of incentive for all this bullsh*t, but they won't.

I think it means: our upgrades have been going very smoothly so we cut back on the testing period, and this time we got burned. We'll fire some people who were no doubt just doing what they were told by higher-ups. We've screwed up some accounts and are scrambling like mad to fix it before we let the people back in so no one knows about it.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
