Submitting Complete Mint/Proof Sets For Grading?

I have some nice Mint and Proof Sets that I am considering sending in to PCGS for Grading. I want to send the complete set. Can I submit them complete to PCGS still in the Packaging from the Mint? It seems like this would be acceptable. Less chance of any fingerprints, etc. on the coins? Thanks for your thoughts, Lee

Yes you can, but the entire set has to be graded.

Wrong answer. See Yousri's post for the correct response.

The only drawback is it will take a week for them to post coins
Someone has to open them at PCGS

For recent ones it is, just twist it and insert a screwdriver along the seam and lift.
Ones from the 1970's are the hardest, because each coin is in a grooved slot that doesn't always peel apart.
PCGS uses a saw to cut them open. And yes, it you have the complete set graded PCGS will remove them from the set.

I find a good reason to send off the set is so that a beautifully toned coin wont come back as "questionable color"
Stand-by for responses letting you know how terribly flawed your logic is...

Resurrecting a 20 year old thread for this?
There are members younger than this thread. 🤔
There must be ways to artificially tone coins inside sets.
I miss old Russ. Gone for 8 years.
I've never had one rejected for QC from mint sets as long as it's in the cello.

Have you ever had one that you cut out of the cello come back as QC? 🤔
I had one come back ED.
Gorgeous coin.
Guess I was a few years to late, much like this thread.

I've chosen not to try that route. If I have any intent to submit it i leave it in the cello.

Interesting - I would think the grading costs would bankrupt the operation (value of individual coins in proof set). At show today saw guy with lots PF Sets OGP at his table / people want OGP. Now early sets w really nice Franklx that may be different play call. Is it cameo? I have junk box of cents / 25c cut out of the PF set where the half was sent in and slabbed rest raw and to collector coin bargain dept.
