What's the next Quarterly Freebie?

I know the Two-Year Type just ended, what's next?

I hope it's something that has a modern in it. I'd love to have a free coin to send in.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

  • Bam!

Free submission for me! Awesome. I've got a sweet 1938D Buffalo Nickel that could go MS67. It's heading in today.

Is the ad for this a pop-up? That's probably why I didn't see it...

No. There is no way to link popups. It is on the normal PCGS site.

  • I wonder if early Morgan dollars would count (1878-1885: while they were still making Trade dollars)? Or would only 1878 count since Trade dollars were proof only after 1878?

Personally, I doubt it, though I suppose someone could confirm with HRH. Often, Trade Dollars are listed separately from other silver dollars, and for that reason they might not be considered -- just as I'd expect the 1857 large cent and Flying Eagle not to qualify.

Could be wrong, obviously, and if past history is any indication, I probably am. image
  • From the link:

This month's special is for coins of a different type, dated the same year. Note that this does NOT include varieties, such as the two varieties of the 1913 Buffalo nickel or the 1917 Quarter. The Redbook is the authority. If it defines the change as a variety, it does not count. If it has a separate TYPE heading, it counts. Only regular issue, circulation strike coins are eligible. Patterns (1856 Flying Eagle), "unusual" strikes (1913 Liberty Nickel) and commemorative coins do not qualify.

The Redbook does list Trade Dollars right between Seated Dollars and Morgans, so I'd guess it would count. But only the 1878 (Trade or Morgan) would count since 1879-1885 are not "circulation strike coins."

At least that's my interpretation. =)
