  • You waited longer than three days?

    Cameron Kiefer
  • It says 'notes' are not returnable not coins. As long as you are still within the allowed 3 days, and follow their instructions to the letter, you should still be ok. Call their customer service number to be sure.

Don't you know Heritage buys the dregs of the grades at rock bottom prices and then sells them for high end market prices?
  • I called, was sent to voice mail. Voice mail recorded long enough to leave name and number!! Geez!!!

    "This was an auction."

Which means that they DIDN'T own the coin? image

Let see some pics, next to the Heritage pics. And I agree, you should be able to return them.
  • The post auction pics are worse. I'll post em!!
  • RBinTex, In an auction, Heritage does not own the coins. They sold coins for me before. And they did a good job!!

Those look like the pics I get off my flatbed scanner. What do the pics look like on their site if you use the zoom feature?

Jonesy, not to rub salt in the wound, but hasn't there been several threads posted here about Heritage's lack of photo-ability in regards to coins? It seems to me that they would do well to hire someone of some talent to do their auction coins, such as Jeremy. image but then, they might not get the bids they want if the coins were actually represented as they truly are...........maybe I just answered the question here......image

I could have told you the 38-S is a dog. But the 38-D doesn't look half bad.

<<< RBinTex, In an auction, Heritage does not own the coins >>>

Not true, especially in the Exclusively Internet auctions, much of which is their unsold retail inventory in my experiences.

The PCGS grade review sounds like your best bet.

  • The 38D has way too many hits. The 38S doesn't have a full strike!! image

  • Be careful, Jonesy. About 6 months ago I bought a coin through Heritage auction that was an absolute dog. I returned the coin. Heritage then contacted me to let me know they were going to charge me 5%, to which I agreed. I reported it here because I was a little suprised with the charge. I got totally flamed. The worst flaming I've ever taken on the boards. A few things I learned through the whole experience:

#1. Heritage is a great company, despite what many say on these boards. Talk to them. If you are a good customer, they will work with you.

#2. Consignors don't like their coins being returned. I must agree, even though I returned a coin. Under bidders are likely to see the coin as "a problem coin" the next time it comes up for auction.

#3 Heritage absolutely must do something about their imaging. This should almost be #1, it is a huge problem. For a company that boasts about the number of internet bidders it has registered, it sure doesn't seem concerned about letting those customers actually see the coin.

#4. Be careful about posting anything provocative on these boards. If you create that "Stampede" you want, just be sure it isn't heading right at you!

Great post Jack. I returned a Lincoln 3 years ago with a hidden spot on the reverse and, after examining the coin and their photos, they were nice enough to give me a refund. They've changed their Signature return policy for online bidders since then, which I totally understand. But if they're going to encourage online bidding they really do need to address the quality of their copper images. If you can't make the show and don't have anyone to preview the coin for you, you're bidding on blind faith in the label and a gut feeling about the photo in most cases.

    >>>address the quality of their copper images

Copper images? How about ALL their images? Their gold coins always look to have a beautiful yellow/gold look but in person they are often just dull gold. The silver and nickel are just as bad. Plus, given NGC's white holder most of those coins turn out dark and useless as a picture. Although, I think NGC should really change their slab, Heritage in the mean time should take a bit more time with their photography.

They need to improve big-time with their photos if they really want sight-unseen buyers to bid. I don't recommend that but if Heritage wants participation then improving their photos HAS to be the starting point.

be careful what you bid for sight unseen ............. you might get it

    michael
  • They both look red-brown to me, not full red. Either the grade is wrong, or the coins darkened in the slab. You might have to try the PCGS grade guarantee on these if Heritage doesn't get back to you.

Let's face it...for the world's largest dealer they have the world's worst pictures. Either too dark, too light...I'll bet 80% of the posters HERE cound do better. Now ask yourself, considering that this business is one of absolute scrutiny, ie. grading, why do they KEEP them that way. The do NOT think they are good...they are not that unaware...so is it a smokescreen? It's fishy to me. And I notice that their live auction coins have slightly better pics...hummmmm. (but only slightly).

  • I don't know, they look pretty good to me.
I'd probably buy them if someone hadn't already done so.
