What's happening beneath the last "A" in "AMERICA" on the reverse?

  • I vote leave it in the slab it is in.

  • She's hella beautiful!!!!!!!! I haven't cracked before and really would try to cross her over.

If that's pitting beneath that "A", then the coin should be left as is.

The stuff under the A is dust guess I should have dusted my scanner before using it

  • I don't think you will get a higher grade or designation. Leave it in that slab.

I say leave it...and out of anger at having not received a higher grade from NGC, sell it at a low price to a needy board member.image
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.
  • A beautiful coin. Leave it in the original slab. Crossing these days risks
    "fingerprinting" and other mistakes.

  • Leave it alone. The risk of loss, theft or damage is too great to risk crossing such a nice coin. NGC is still a respected slab, so you should have no problems when it comes to value retention. If this had been in a third world holder, I'd say go for it.

Scanner's a Microtek Scanwizard and I use 600 dpi Jpg then use adobe photo to resize for veiwing.
Thanks for all your opinions I guess I'll leave it as is.

  • Well if you were putting it into a registry set it would pretty much be a no brainer.
There does look to be a big jump in selling prices from PR64 to PR65, even if you cross over at the same grade in PCGS, the price
difference would probably pay for it anyway.
    Tough call.
    It's a very nice coin.

I like the looks of larger CAM coins in a white holder.
They just don't seem to look as nice in a clear holder.

Unless you just wanted it in a PCGS holder I see no reason to mess with it. But if I was going to I'd crack it out and do it raw.
Your pictures make it look solid enough for the grade that I wouldn't be scared of it grading anything but 64 cam, to say the least. Me thinks it's high end for grade and who knows, you might get a 65 back.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I'm glad I've switched to the darkside. I don't have to worry about this kind of nonsense anymore.

    Tell me it ain't so.
    To each his own.

  • It's in a late vintage slab from a good service and not obviously undergraded, so why would you want to mess with it?
  • saintgurusaintguru Posts: 7,724 ✭✭✭
Why is a cross-over such a problem? It can't get downgraded and as a PCGS coin is easier sold for good money, IMO.image

  • Its gonna bring more cash in a PCGS slab should you decide to sell it.

If you are planning to sell it imminently, I'd try very hard to get it into a PCGS holder.

If you have no plans to sell it, then I'd settle into a comfortable chair and watch football or something, content that your coin is just fine in its current holder and if and when you do decide to sell at some point in the future, you can evaluate the then current slabbing companies and which one might serve you best.

  • It's a very nice coin! I wouldn't bother crossing it. With that kind of eye appeal, I don't see why it would matter what holder it's in.

Dan...look at auction archives where ther are 2 "same coins" in both NGC and PCGS holders. The fact is that the PCGS will usually bring a significant premium. I've found it to be 10-30% more.

hmmm, why are these such a tough grade. i mean, its not an ike dollar.
if i didnt know it was graded 64 i,d say it was definitely a gem (65 or better).
what makes it a 64 and not a gem 5+?
    image

leave as is and just call it undergraded.
i,d ask 5 money for it if i was looking to sell.
    its a real beaut imo
  • SmittysSmittys Posts: 9,876 ✭✭✭✭✭
There are a few hairlines on the portiat but the feilds and clean as a whistle, personally I think it's a 65, but hey who am i to judge NGC.
The only other tought is PCGS does seem to bring better money9 not sure if I'm going to sell) but it would be nice to know, plus in 65 in more than doubles in price.
What to do, what to do, everyone seem to make a good point.image
    again thanks to everyone,
