"Grades In" on 1921 Morgan received by PCGS 10/07

image Got this 1921 Morgan from one of those "Lot Sales" on ebay. This is my first coin to go to PCGS for Grading. Got it for a buck and think it's 63 maybe 64?

Tough to tell from the picture but the coin looks like it has a lack of Luster. Stuff on her cheek also. Looks AU to me.

  • Not bad at all, If I say.
But the Eagle looks like his chest has some wear, but maybe that is a weak strike or old worn down die.
The suspense builds as to what PCGS grades it as. . . image

You mean one of those "lot sales" lotteries actually came through with a "winner"? image

    Looks AU 58.

( don't know how anyone could guess XF45 to MS 67 as a general range).

Lots of "newbies" are in a big rush to get their first coins "graded."
When they get the results back.... well, you'll see.

When is the operative word here!

Are we taking bets how many more times Lee is going to threaten/promise to leave before he gets them back.

    I say the over/under is 2!

If it comes back AU50 I'm ok with that. I don't have high expectations for this coin. Who knows what the value of this coin will be in 10, 20, or 50 years. I sure don't. I'm not some big high dollar collector like some here. I'm starting out small as alot of us do and as my skills in grading get better I hope to be like others here and "Cherrypick". But all that's way down the road. Thanks, Lee

That's good, Lee, sounds like your expectations are realistic and you're after a learning experience, not a "score"

In that case, I think you'll have fun image

OK, let me get this straight...

    Cost of coin $1
Cost of grading (15 day service) $30
Shipping to and from PCGS $20

    TOTAL spent on coin $51

    Greysheet bid $37

    Profit -$14

  • Congadulations on the great grade and an attractive coin. Everyone is worried about the ecomonics here, but I think you are smart to start off with the more inexpensive common dates first, to get an idea on how Morgans are graded. I hope you already have the paperback by Q.D. Bowers (the one sold by www.anrcoins.com at their shop). Bowers has been an expert on these coins for decades and I certainly learned a lot from the Morgan Book, even though I've collected Morgans for 35 years.

I have to agree with morgannut. If you want to test your abilites to grade a coin, why not do it cheap? Why does a submission have to be for big bucks?
