  • A very cool set, I wouldn't be suprised if it brought $5,000 or more. image

I am not aware of the Oregon's having been sold in cellophane like that. I'm not saying they weren't, only that if they were I had not seen them like that before.

I am checking with a serious commem collector/aficionado, and if I hear back will post an update to this thread.

This seems like a great marketing ploy. Incidentally, all of this seller's past auctions involving Oregon Trail Half dollars are similarly packaged.
  • Yes, but will it ever be worth as much as the Lewis and Clark nickels with the pouch?? image

Update - I contacted the seller as follows:

"Dear seller, I have been a full time dealer for 25 years and have not heard of silver commemoratives ever havng been sold in cellophane - please advise as to how you know these items were sold as such? Many thanks"

    To which he replied:

"These were stored by the collector in cellophane, not sold in cellophane. These are from an old collection, they were removed from the cards and envelopes and placed into cellos to prevent spotting.

    Thanks for the interest!"

Not bashing the guy but probably not a good choice of words.

Larry, I agree, and told him that his auctions were misleading, whether intentionally or otherwise.

One of the coins. Looks nice. Can't see myself paying what these are going to bring.

Holy Crap! Auction closed at nearly three grand.imageimage
  • Don't stand between a man and his commemoratives........image
  • It's not real as in "official" real...someone made it.....so I doubt it has any extra value beyond the coins and their grade....
