I don't see anything that is wrong with this auction. As far as i am concerned it is Ok.
If I was the seller I would be happy and both worried at the same time.
I can read Ok most of the time.
But this is what happens when people don't read about what is being sold.

I just sold a couple of quarter bags on Ebay yesterday, and the bags, boxes and all sold for very satisfactory prices for me.
But I had no idea people would want just the box this badly.

Fortunately, it isn't my auction, I just ran across it by accident.
So I don't have to worry about any of the implications it involves.
But if it was my auction, I would have PM'd the bidders to make sure, just to help clear my conscience.
I wouldn't have felt good doing it myself as a seller.

WOW, there is going to be an unhappy winner.
Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.

Depends on what he is planning to do with it.
If the seller did this on purpose, and intends only to deliver the box, he's a scumbag. They buyer will surely be pissed!!
wonder what his plans are?
What we need around here is a posse! to harass the guy and foil his evil intents!
And the current underbidder's most recent purchase! hmmm!
(I didn't search the underbidder's record too thoroughly but would bet there's a '99 bag in there somewheres)

WOW! $66 for a cardboard box is quite a bit. I wonder what could make someone want one so badly? And speaking of weird hobbies....
It's the start of a new "unopened" trend born out of the sucessful resealed proof set business

Yep. It's gotten to the point where is hard to find opened sets on eBay.

Good catch baley! His intent is clear IMO.

Hi,
Iam not so sure about that. In every other area I collect and deal items are worth much more if in the original box, and in several cases the original boxes are worth more than the item itself. It is not "box collecting" - it is just collecting the "whole item" to those who wish to do so as such.
I sure wish I had whatever my early Proof coins came in! I understand they were sold, sometimes in small sets of 1c-5c, perhaps in a box or wrapped in tissue or paper - or, alternatively, sometimes like change out "of the drawer "so to speak!

And others just sit here and read about collecting in all its wonderous variety vicariously.....

Ike Specialist
Finest Toned Ike I've Ever Seen, been looking since 1986
he paid 66 for the box and 68 for the bag of "unsearched" quarters.
I don't see anyone selling them for much over $102 bucks at this moment.
So it beats me.
