ANA and NGC Graded coins? Images Added

I just bought a coin that is graded by ANA, but it also says NGC on the reverse of the slab. Can someone tell me the difference between a ANA graded coin and a NGC graded coin? Aren't they both graded by NGC?

Thanks,

  • It says that NGC is the official grading service of the ANA. The ANA does not grade it but was paid money by NGC to put their logo on the hologram.

  • Charlie - can you post a picture of the slab? NGC is the official grader for the ANA - and the ANA doesn't do any grading themselves. So Im not sure what you're seeing.

ANA hasn 't graded coins since the service was sold to Amos Press years ago.
  • ANA graded coins from the ANACS service prior to 1992:

Your coin is graded by NGC, which endorses the ANA.

As Tom pointed out, it's graded by NGC. That's a nice looking 88-S.

    ...which the ANA endorses.
Get one of their newest slabs and you 'll see both the ANA and PNG logos. (of course, paid endorsements)

Charlie: That's a beautiful 1888-S with a 5 degree (clockwise) rotated reverse. Thanks for sharing her with us!
