The Modern devaluation?

Are you noticing a devaluation in the TPG moderns? Last night at Heritage I bought a Botanical MS70 for $350. Within the last month on Teletrade and Ebay this coin was $625 and $525.
Others- SAC 2000-D MS68, $300 to $200. IKE 1971-S MS67, $375 to $300. SBA WR MS66, $325 to $150.
Are you seeing more of the same?

I recently added the Botanical to my MS Modern Dollar Commem and happily set a price on it at $500 (perhaps a tad more) as I recall. You simply "stole" one last night IMHO. I paid no attention to the EI sale last night and generally do not look at them. The ebay prices are more in line with the typical prices I see the coin selling at.
As for 00(d) Sacs in MS68- the coin has not been $300 for a very long time. I've been selling the coin all year around $200 and would happily sell to board members today at $170/coin. I do not get enough 71(s) Ikes or WR SBA's in each year to comment on price movement.

Dear Wondercoin. If you check your records, you sold the coin you mention above to me for $250 on Aug 12. Two weeks prior to this the coin was $300 and now you're selling the coin for $170.

<< <i>Moderns are junk and only "greater fools" buy them. It's only a matter of time until prices of all modern coins crash hard. >>
I sure wish those who say that would define "matter of time", since the same thing was being said 2 1/2 years ago when I joined this forum.

buy LOW remember
Earlier this year, I was buying 1995W PCGS-PR69DCAM Silver Eagles for around $2,000/coin and selling them for around $2,200. Now, prices well into the $3,000's.
And on and on and on. There are modern Commems and Silver Eagles that have corrected down in price over the past year or two and a few that have likely outperformed the vast majority of classic and modern coins out there IMHO. Of course, seldom do the "winners" get discussed here. And, there are losers to be sure, as there are with classic coins and most markets.

Update... I bought both coins. The modern market is down and I'm still buying. Don't know how much longer I can stand in front of this train.
Update(2)...The train thing is a joke. I submitted 13 MS70's that I purchased from Coast to Coast years ago for less then $20 each and that's is sort of a joke too.

I'm happy to discuss winners all day. I think a potential future winner is the 2002 Olympic $5. It's got a super low mintage, but the prices haven't really reflected that yet. It could easily double in a year or two. But I also think a lot of moderns are pretty well played out -- the OP's Botanical, for example. I wouldn't expect much upward movement in that anytime soon.
I just hope the 1995-96 Olympic $5s don't move anytime soon. I got a pining for 'em, but have been given an edict from my better half to stop buying coins for a bit until the property taxes and insurance gets paid.

-This one took a nice little bump from $200 to $325 earlier this year (when I dumped 4 of them), but has since settled to around $220 again.

You don't have to buy them to keep your coins prices up.

Good example of why a few of my modern consignors enjoy consigning coins to me

Well, I guess we have to define all our terms then! What's a "modern"?
also, sorry, but I forgot all the "quotes", IMO's, smileys winkies and other emoticons to indicate if i was being sarcastic, facetious, "for reals", or what.
Maybe i was just "stirring the pot" (before smokin' it??
anyway, IMO things will be fine for everyone if they buy what they like and use dey heads in decision making

<< <i>I am waiting for that damn 1998-s SMS kennedy half to drop in price. >>
It's actually dropped quite a bit. In MS69, it was a $400 coin a couple years ago; today $280. In MS70, it was around $1200; today $700. I don't really see it dropping much more until the market as a whole goes in the toilet.

Well then here's to the flush!!!

A 10 to 15 X Loupe is needed to tell the difference between an MS69 and MS70 (if the difference can be ascertained at all) and any true collector would be more than happy with an MS69 version of any Modern Commemorative; it is virtually flawless.
The Registry MS70 "Top Pop" Game is fun if you have the ways and means but collecting is also fun and you don't have to worry about the "down side".
Only spend descretionary income on Registry Modern Commemoratives Coins!!!
