Standing Liberty Quarter fans must read

I picked up a bunch of coin magazines at Borders yesterday to leaf through over a latte, and the November issue of COINValues has an excellent piece in it on how to photograde these coins with illustrations of each grade up to 66 including illustartions of what a full head should look like. There are also color coded images that illustrate the primary, secondary and tertiary areas where wear occurs and how much it affects the overall grade of the coin. A very educational read about one of the most beautiful coins ever produced.

  • PCGS's Grading book also has the color coded high points for many of the popular series.

  • Cool - I love Border's, I'll check it out.
  • Picked this up last night. I will say it was difficult to find for me. Two Borders then I finally found it at a magazine shop. Definitely worth it.

The article is quite a number of pages in length, and the grading part is one of the most descriptive I've ever seen.

If you like the series, and you also enjoy these coins in all grades, you'll really appreciate the grading article.

  • Purchased it. Thanks! Big piece (no pun intended) about the exposed bosom on coins/currency too. Prooflike's icon is an 1876 Gobrecht quarter topless.... I have seen it at auction recently, I think. What coin (pattern) is it really??? Just curious, if anyone knows.

CoinValues is included with Coin World every month. These magazines are one of the best reasons to subscribe. I never thought I'd keep old issues, but each month they focus on a different coin. Its amazing what you've forgotten until you see their in detailed photographs and written descriptions.

I enjoyed the article on the SLQ's as well, as its also my favorite coin. Too bad it was discontinued after such a short production run.
