Well, how much is one suppose to cost?

  • Jerry, you paid an appropriate amount. As far as FR-2 Draped Bust Quarters, that's a nice one due to the strong date over-all look. It's a very historic artifact for a reasonable price. ......and it is still legal tender to boot!

    I'd give it a split grade, FR-2/AG-3.

This is an OK buy for $70.35, but it's not my kind of coin. You would have to pay at least a couple hundred before you could have a coin that I would begin to like.

Uncle wiggly, don't let the Dork get you down, everyone knows he's an all-talk windbag full of hot air. image

If you're just getting started in the draped bust coins, I think you did ok on that one (but just ok) but as Bill Jones says, nicer looking ones get expensive fast; once you get to like these coins, you'll be shopping for full Goods and Very Goods (and not finding many; I think this one cost about twice what yours did and is about as worn as I like 'em (I prefer complete legends and no major damage, although this one is missing some stars on the left..)

edit: btw, your coin looks at first glance like a B-9, which is a pretty common variety. Die break at the 1 in the date.

i would pay $70 for a 1806 quarter in fair-2 - IF - the grade were due to circulation, which has historical context. wear is caused by passage thru the hands of normal commerce , & that has strong historic appeal.

but damage like that could have occurred 200 years ago, 50 years ago, or last week. it does not have historical context for me.

i would basically pass on this coin at any price, but if it were available for say 20 bucks, i might buy it to give away to a yn auction or something like that.

  • Thanks for everybody's comments. I figured I couldn't do too bad as long as it remained under $100. It was kind of hard for me to determine a price to bid. At least now I have one. oops have won and paid for one.

I like it - the price you paid was not terrible.
