Quick Q: Do You Send Directly to PCGS or Go Thru Dealer?

see topic.

also, what are you experiences with either?

Comments

  • I went through a dealer only once, American Gold Exchange, and I thought it was great. I didn't have to mess with any of the paperwork. I still have to send in my 8 free submissions for joining the Collector's Club and that will be my first experience submitting directly. After I use my 8, then I'll decide which is easier.

    Direct.

I inquired about going with a local dealer once, but he only did full price (no economy) submissions. Also I would be tied to his submission schedule.

I've dropped off and picked up in person for about eight years. The 40-mile drive is more than made up for by the savings in postage, security peace of mind, and the all-important "gimme gimme gimme" instant gratification we want after our grades have been posted.
    When in doubt, don't.

  • Direct. The policy used to be that you had to go through an authorized dealer (same as NGC). The reason was because an authorized dealer could screen the coins for problems. Now the collector must screen his/her own coins prior to direct submission.

I submit them directly. One time I submitted at Long Beach and got it back a couple days later, but that was only because it was a coin that is important to me.

You don't have to estimate grade, but you do have to put a value on the coin for insurance purposes with shipping.

A dealer could submit your coin with some real dogs or bodybag canidates and that could affect the grade of your coin. jmo

    So far direct.

  • I do both. There is a dealer in the area that submits a fair amount of high quality coins. If I have a nicer piece he will send mine in with his.

I doubt that it makes a difference but it makes me feel better about anyway.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
