Just received a Paypal payment and the address is unconfirmed (US address). Guy has good feedback. SHould I be concerned? Why would anyone have an unconfirmed address? I thought Paypal required the CC address match the shipping address. No?

I've used an uncofirmed address for years, and only had a handful of emails from sellers about it.
My PayPal confirmed address is my home address, which I don't give out over the Internet for security reasons.
I use a PO box in a local city to receive my eBay stuff.
PayPal doesn't require the shipping address match the confirmed (credit card statement) address, but if you ship to an unconfirmed address you are not covered under their policy and could lose your money if it's fraudulent.
But there are many people buying who don't have confirmed addresses that aren't scammers.

with PayPal. I much prefer getting things sent to the PO Box, but will usually use the
confirmed address as I know people are most comfortable sending things that way.

Also - you should change your PayPal preferences to NOT automatically accept payments from unconfirmed addresses.
That way you have the opportunity to check out the buyer first and then decide if you want to accept it or not.

I had one similar experience for a double eagle that I sold on ebay. I emailed the seller to get the particulars, he seemed to be on the up-and-up, and the transaction went smoothly.
s protection.
Further, if you go into PayPal to accept or deny the payment, you will see how many other sellers this person has paid using PayPal - and if there's a lot, it might reduce your anxiety level.
But, to each his (or her) own.......
If I had it my way, stupidity would be painful!
What about eChecks from unconfirmed addresses through PayPal? Are they subject to the same chargeback games as if the buyer used a credit card?

MAYBE YOU CAN FIND A SELLER THAT IS WILLING TO SHIP NEW KEYBOARDS TO UNCONFIRMED ADDRESSES.

AND I DO NOT HAVE ANY TROBLE BUYING COINS.

My PO Box is my confirmed address, so anyone shipping UPS or FedEx has to send it to my unconfirmed work address. And at other times I buy items as gifts and have it sent directly to that person.
Thus in my Paypal account I have 1 confirmed and 5 unconfirmed addresses, but they are all valid in shipping the items to me.

IT'S OBVIOUS THAT YOU DO NEED A NEW KEYBOARD SINCE THE CAPS LOCK KEY ON THE ONE YOU'RE USING IS STUCK DOWN.

(don't tell Russ I've moved though, just in case ).
As for littlejohn....only time i have seen someone type in all caps (that wasn't doing it from ignorance or to dig at someone) was a friend from years ago who was blind and was using a typing assist device. Littlejohn, are you using such a device? If you are, more power to you for doing coins and being so involved, if not.....why use all caps? Seriously. One doops is bad enough.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

well i did not know i was in school .sorry for the caps
i don't see it , being such a big deal.
littlejohn
I wasn't joking on my post...my friend (sight-impaired) did use a device like that and it was always all caps. Since it was an online game where a bunch of us met, it wasn't until just before I met him in person that he mentioned the sight impaired issue. Everyone just assumed he was being rude and didn't care.
He was really a nice guy though. Hard enough to use a keyboard/type sight-impaired. Even harder when you are playing an online text-based game and things happen quickly. He "died" quite a bit.
I hope you keep the proper netiquette for typing now. Makes it much better to read.

Now just work on that grammar and spelling and you'll be on your way to being a good netizen.

I really don't want to publicize the address where my coins, porcelains, non-coin silver, etc., etc., etc., are kept, especially since there's a lot of stuff that either can't be, or isn't appropriate to, keep in a safe. My credit cards are all billed to my P.O. Box, and in the rare case that a seller refuses to use the postal service I either make pre-arrangements with the seller to ship to a friend's business address, or just pass on the item.
well if he file a change of add. kit. then it want go to the confirmed paypal add. anyway.so what dose it do for you.?not a thing.

Well in my case it is because my Paypal account is linked to a checking account and not a credit card. (One I didn't HAVE a credit card, and two since I have multiple bank accounts and the ability to transfer funds between them instantly on-line I can keep the Paypal linked account nearly empty so that if anything does go wrong they can't tie up more than a few dollars of my money.) But since it isn't linked to a credit card, I can't have a confirmed address. Verified yes, confirmed no.
paypal said i would have to get a home post box,but the mail man want come up my drit road.i live on.and its over a 1/2 mile to the black top road. my mail not safe down at the main road,i can't even see the mail box.you sure would not want your money going there , would you.
i know i would not.!!
littlejohn
aka - littlejohnartifacts on ebay.!
so on that ,i can't see why it would matter.!
First of all, I use my unconfirmed address almost ALL of the time when as a buyer I pay w/PayPal. I've yet to have a seller tell me they had a problem with it.
The reason I do this is that I use my business address (where there is somebody there from 8a-6p to accept packages) so as to never miss a delivery & have to go to the P.O. Sure, I could just as easily change one of my credit card billing addresses (that IS what a confirmed address is anyway - unless you do a location verification where they mail you a letter w/ a code on it that you then enter that code on their site to confirm an address WITHOUT a credit card - more about this another time) to my work address but I see no need BECAUSE I ALSO HAVE MY HOME ADDRESS ON MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT THAT IS CONFIRMED. If a seller truly has a problem, I just re-send it using my confirmed address instead.
So it really boils down to whether or not someone ALSO has a confirmed address. My guess is many do.
At the extreme (& YES, depending on their feedback) I WOULD be concerned if they didn't (I mean, who doesn't have a credit card or check card in this day & age except the scammers or the eccentric recluses) so after refusing the payment from the unconfirmed address I'd have the sender re-send it showing they DO in fact have a confirmed address on file w/ PayPal and then I'd make a decision whether or not to ship it to either - at their choice - or ONLY the confirmed one.
I guess to sum up, I think you DO have to weigh several factors - especially if it's not enough money to lose sleep over.
I will be moving soon. This should get interesting.
<< <i>Why would anyone have an unconfirmed address? I thought Paypal required the CC address match the shipping address. No? >>
They know my address and it matches my credit card billing address. I am able to use my account normally in all aspects, unless I come upon a seller who will not accept "unconfirmed" addresses.
A SELLER IS REQUIRED TO SHIP TO THE ADDRESS LISTED ON THE TRANSACTION DETAILS PAGE WHETHER IT IS CONFIRMED OR NOT!!!!
You do not lose Seller Protection if you ship to an unconfirmed address.
If you ship to an address other than what is on the Transaction page you lose Seller Protection, confirmed or not.
As long as you ship to the address on the Transaction page you have Seller Protection whether the address is confirmed or not.
<< <i>change your PayPal preferences to NOT automatically accept payments from unconfirmed addresses >>
Sorry Dog, not so my friend. I just hashed this out with Paypal and they made it abundantly clear that if I ship to an unconfirmed address I have no seller protection. I now print my own USPS labels that come with e/ delivery confirmation for tracking purposes which is automatically linked to my Paypal account.
There will be no more of this bogus "I didn't get it" stuff. I want every advantage possible and since I have a Paypal Premier Business Account I will do EVERYTHING required of me to suit them in order to do away with any avoidable problems.
I still have to go down to the Post Office to insure the items. I have the slips already filled out and I'm in and out...GONE, in no time flat! No confirmed address= NO BID! SORRY Charlie.
<< <i>You do not lose Seller Protection if you ship to an unconfirmed address. >>
PayPal thinks differently about that...
Important Note: Lorie Johnson has provided an Unconfirmed Address. If you are shipping items to Lorie Johnson please keep in mind that you will not be covered by the PayPal Seller Protection Policy.

Boom<<<I tell you what. No disrepect intended toward anyone and I don't know where Dog got his information from, but it just ain't so.>>>
Read the Seller Protection Policy.
Here, let me c&p it for you: The Seller Protection Policy requires that you ship to the address shown on the Transaction Details page regardless of whether this address is the user's Confirmed Address or not.
Confirmed Addresses. Confirmed addresses are not an eligibility requirement for the Seller Protection Policy since confirmation is not available in every country due to Credit Card Association policies.
You're sort of right and sort of wrong, and they're sort of right and sort of wrong. Yes, the language PayPal provides is confusing, and there are specific and infrequent times when seller protection is provided even when shipping to an unconfirmed address - usually only when shipping to a foreign country. However, the bottom line is that if you ship to an unconfirmed address, you are not protected against chargebacks. Period. No ifs, ands or buts.
This is because, aside from any PayPal stipulations, the underlying credit card issuer has their own requirements. If a merchant ships to other than the billing address for the credit card - which is the same thing as "confirmed" address - your ass is still swinging in the wind if a chargeback is filed.
Edited to add some language from the policy with additional commentary:
<< <i>As long as the transaction is eligible for seller protection, you can ship to the address on the Transaction Details page whether such address is confirmed or unconfirmed. >>
This looks like it clears the way, but what they don't tell you is that 90% of the time PayPal will list the transaction as NOT eligible for protection when the buyer has an unconfirmed address - even when the transaction meets all the other criteria. The usual exception being, as noted above, foreign addresses.
