So a Roosie can be MS-67 without a full torch?

Heck yeah. Most of the Roosies graded 67 probably are non-FT.

    Good job, puggy-wuggy!

    I've seen MS68s that weren't FT.

  • Thanks for the kind words - after all was said and done, there were 7 upgrades to my existing set which is pretty good. Just goes to show you there's still a lot of fun in hunting down raw coins! image

Nice score on the 50 and 52S 67FT. A couple of tough dates.

So a Roosie can be MS-67 without a full torch?

I once owned the 1946 MS69 and it was not FT. Not even close...

Frank, I have 8 Roosies in at NGC that should be done any day now. Hope I fare as
    well as you did.

I think there was a thread a while ago about a Roosie going MS-70 and still not having the FB designation.
  • onlyroosiesonlyroosies Posts: 3,293 ✭✭✭✭
There has never been a Roosie graded MS70....There are 2 silver NGC MS69's and a hand full of clad MS69's. Neither
of the silver MS69's have full bands. Both were graded before FB but neither would get the designation today.
PCGS has never graded a silver MS69 Roosie.

Craig - if Im not mistaken, I believe it's a sister coin to the 48P that I posted. Unfortunately I don't have any pics right now - but I should get the coins this weekend and I'll post it then image

Thanks Nick - I hope one of them is a toned 59P - I need one of them image

Question for Frank, Did you submit them to NGC because your set is registered there or do you prefer their grading for Roosevelts?

Question for everyone, does the market prefer PCGS graded Roosies, or do NGC coins perform just as well? How much difference does a star rating make in terms of value? The reason I ask is that I have several sets to submit, and am trying to decide where to submit them.

Frank, perhaps a coin like this NGC 1959P MS67FT? Or is this too deeply toned for your tastes? I love blue so I like this coin a lot!

  • Strat:

I'll be totally honest with you. This is the third major group of Roosies I've submitted. I submitted the first on to NGC for several reasons. One I wasn't planning on selling them, and I thought if I could get a few stars that'd be great. Well - the stars have been few and far in between so that didn't pan out as well as I expected. Personally, I like these toned coins in a white holder - I know that sounds dweeby, but as I said, I wasn't planning on selling them, so I was collecting them for myself. I believe, as is the case in many instances, that the mistique of PCGS adds to the value of some of these coins, so if you plan on selling them I would go with PCGS - but this brings the third reason why I chose to send my coins to NGC - the time lag - I wanted my coins back in a reasonable amount of time. NGC has taken no more than 30 days to process each of my 6 orders of Roosevelts. That in my opinion carried some value. So - if you're planning on selling them - go with PCGS, if you're planning on keeping them and would just like them certified for your own pleasure - either one should do.

Thank you Frank, your reasoning makes sense. I am planning on selling these coins, though I have been considering forming a collection for ahwile. Since I've had many of these for going on five years now, I'm not in a rush.
