Brad: It would be very cool if you wished to provide that current real market pricing info to PCGS for them to input into their pricing guide to make it nearly real-time and more up-to-date...

    Anybody else out there agree??

erm...problem here, but I'm not gonna say nuttin to the dorks at ePay...what you're doing is illegal without purchasing it from them, and they charge $25K. I thought about doing the exact same thing, but didn't want to fork out the dough.

Someone please explain to me how collecting/compiling publically available data could be illegal?
    Dave - Durham, NC
  • They have the money and power to intemidate thus making it illegal for us to use their data.

  • Just found this and resurrecting it. Very useful- thanks!
Don't know how much work it is to update, but if you do it again with more recent data, I'd enjot having it.

Something seems screwy with the prices on the database. How many 1916-D Mercury Dimes have you ever seen for sale around $100 in the past year?
  • stev32kstev32k Posts: 2,098 ✭✭✭
Yeah, I agree. It looks like some of the prices are missing some decimal points, e.g. 1916-D MS64 Mercury Dime for 50 bucks.

As it stands, the database is suspect and completely useless. Bummer.

Is this only for sold coins?

It's pretty interesting data but not too valuable if this is only for the sold coins without giving some indication of how many actually didn't sell in the categories to compare the ones that did sell.

I don't think eBay will give too much notice to this, it's not like he's selling it and if he took the time to retrieve it manually from the PUBLICLY listed website and compile it into this I don't think there's much they could do.

I don't think there is a problem with compiling the data either. Ebay has a search facility that lets anyone look at all the information on past auctions - including prices. So long as the data is not sold I don't think there is anything wrong.

That would be cool. But, you also need to be really careful on the quality of that data. Did you notice that all you 16-D Mercury dimes essentially went for pennies?

You also need the variety information...ie: Full band Dimes, Full Step Nickels, etc.
  • Brad thanks for doing this- useful info.
