This is what I don't get... the 1895-s in ef is significantly tougher than the 95-O and now the 95-O goes for nearly twice as much
You and me both, my friend. I don't get it either. All I do get...is all the 95-S I can find at current market levels....which unfortunately, ain't many!
The HIGH RELIEFS are not rare at all. BUT the DEMAND is always high. Most gold coin collectors, no matter what they are after, has to have the 1907 High relief. SO many lincoln cent high grade low pops have at the minimum doubled in value the past year. And that 2004 nickel, for $760 and only a year old, that is getting a little overboard. Should we save ALL our brand new change, and slab it for a high profit a year or two later???
Rare coins is an area with simple economics. I've said it a million times. They aren't making any more of them prior to 2004, and there is an increasing demand. That's what drives prices higher.
