Yeah, they'll probably do a retake on the buffalo reverse, but I am more hopeful for the 'V' reverse.

OOH OOH
I agree, the state quarters wont hold a candle to the new nickel if they put a Buffalo on the reverse. This could be very good for the hobby.
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

That gives us a one year window in 2005 for everyone to go nuts over the 1 year design. Hopefully it will be circulated instead of just hoarded. The US Mint better be ready to do billions of these nickels if it is the "buffalo" design.

The quote on the reverse is a direct one from one of the Lewis and Clark diaries. Actually, they had to change the spelling of Ocean back from Ocein as it was spelling in the diary. This was pointed out at today's news conference at the Mint.

I do like the obverse design and the Buffalo reverse.

please explain what you don't understand about the current minting process that would lead to the above comment. certainly you understand that the low relief designs of the current day are a function of what's needed for reasonable die life when faced with striking an issue in the hundreds of millions for commerce. you do understand that fact, right??
oh, how i harken back to the days when the country's population was a few million, coinage requirements were amazingly high if they were in the hundreds of thousands and the populace was lucky to see an issue in their pocket---------yet designs were criticized. apparently some things never change.

The flying Buffalo Nickel!
When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary.

#1 - "Jeffalo" nickel; or
#2 - "Bufferson" nickel?
Personally I like "Jeffalo" nickel better.
Any other nicknames you can think of? If so, please favor us with your creativity and wit.
Buffalo reverse: Been there & done that. The original Buffalo nickel was graphically strong...didn't turn the Buffalo into a small object in the center of the field. Insipid & unoriginal.
New Jeff obverse: nice....we've finally broken the iron fist of symmetry by having enlarged portriat to the left side, rather than the typical smaller "object in a field" type coin design.
Ocean reverse: not bad...hopefully hills & water will be rendered with some interesting textures.
Keelboat reverse: yuck....same miniscule "object in a field" type design. The boat is far too complex for such a small coin. An enlargment showing just a portion of the boat, similar to the new Jeff obverse design, would've been less static and more interesting.
