My new baby

I'm excited to share my most recent addition. This is also my first attempt at loading a picture onto the message board from a hosted website. Any guesses on the grade for the Oregon Trail Commemorative? It is a 1939-S. Bought it raw and payed (what I consider) handsomely for it. I plan on crossing my fingers and sending it in for grading in a few weeks. Thanks...

Hard to determine a grade without an obverse. Also, What is the film on reverse? Besides the film, the coin looks pretty good. How is the luster? It looks like it might have been dipped before (to me anyway).

I always thought the Oregon was one of the nicest commems. My friend (who collects) never understood why I bought one since I am from Texas.

  • The luster is good. I'm fairly certain the coin wasn't dipped, as the surfaces look somewhat frosted under a glass. I'm not sure what the film is. It doesn't look real "filmy" up close. Perhaps it is simply some oxidation. Darn thing is 65 years old.
The photo below was taken under different lighting. It is the same coin. Thanks!
