Spent Wed/Th at the LB show and had a good time with my son. Got there early so spent the AM at the Getty museum north of LA - nice collection! If you want to see what the really rich guys collect, that's the place to visit - free, no less.
Had a chance to meet 2 forum members I'd never met before. IdahoGal looks just like her picture in the forum. Walked by the table several times and one of the nicest people I've ever met at a show kept asking if I needed help. After a while, I looked to see who it was and it was the SpudGirl herself. Real nice person and a delight to meet.
The second was TJKillian. He invited me over Wed. night to talk coins and we had a delightful time. Brought over a 6-pack of Killians (thought it would be appropriate) and enjoyed the evening with Tom and Crystal talking coins. It made me realize what a rut I'm in with small cents. After talking type coins for a while, I realized it's time to branch out.
The show didn't have much for me. The auction had some interesting coins. Never thought I'd see a 1858 SL MS66 go for 39K! It was clearly a proof coin (in spite of the misattribution - guess the Heritage folks should buy Snow's books....) and I guess someone thought it would cross to P66. It would be the only reason to pay that kind of money. Several other nice coins crossed the block and I was able to buy a couple. The nice coins went for alot of money.
Had a chance to see several other PCGS folks to include JB Stevens, RKKAy, Snow, Brian Wagner, Schweitz, Angel Dee, Julian, Lustig, Coinguy, Scott/Pinnacle, Ira Stein and others. Over all a good time.
Finally, regarding Bears assessment of the market, I can only say this about IHC's, FE cents and small cent patterns. They appear to have been largely locked up and simply aren't available. If it's at all analagous to other series, the market is strong enough that there is a supply problem. The prices realized on substandard coins that keep circulating shouldn't be viewed as a good barometer of the market. Once great coins come available, only then will we know the true status of the market.

"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." She was mine before you ever met her. She came to the Feb. Long beach show to meet me!

Well I won't hold that against her. Everyone makes their mistakes in life.
