Any new info on the Cherry Picker's Guide?

Like many of you I prepaid a while ago. I'm starting to wonder when it might be released. The web site seems to be in a state of limbo. You would think they would update the staus more frequently.

I've pretty much written that 30.00 off at this point.
  • I am really starting to feel like I have been ripped off. This has gotten way beyond ridiculous, health problems or no.

My honest guess is that the CPG author has a serious case of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and can not bear the thought of releasing the book for "fear" that some variety has been left out. I'm NOT trying to be funny here either!

I am pretty sure that this whole deal violates some fair trade laws. Keeping everyone's money that long is inexcusable. Somebody should start a class action suit.

I have no interest in this case, since I haven't preordered the book (I have been looking forward to it for way too long however).

I would think in the interest of fairness, everyone that has preordered, should be contacted and offered a full refund if they are interested, of to allow the order to remain "open" until the book is finally finished.

I don't know if that would circumvent any legal proceedings, but it would indicate that the people in charge of the effort are at least concerned with the customer and not just playing some fast game with their money.

They have. Any person can write or e-mail and get a full refund.

... and at some point, just publish the book!

"good enough, and now" is, at some point (several months ago) a LOT better than "perfect, but never"

I have tried emailing several times, asking for an update, asking for a refund, etc. Never have I received an email in return.

    I agree with that comment.

Someone I know was supposed to receive galley proofs of the book to proofread before it went to press. He has still not received his copy, and tells me J.T. has stopped answering his emails. Rumors of another set-back to his health are also swirling. Not good news at all.

Just face it...there is a high amount of doubt from a number of sources that the book will ever be published. Period. No need to keep mulling over it. Get your money back and stop bothering.

I know what your saying CD.

I'm sure you and most everyone here hopes your wrong.
Cherrypickers has been a really great help to the hobby, as well as your book.

I hope to see more from JT and CD.

Health problems can really set a person back.
I'm sure many here have learned this first hand.

JT is one of the good guys and I wish him the best.

J.T. has my payment for the book. I hope he publishes, because I'd really enjoy the book, but if he can't, I'll not worry much about the money. If he's sick again, he may need it more than I do right now.

Though it would seem that the best course of action is to recruit someone to do the final edits. Either that or to just remove some material and declare it done. Or even release as-is and have a second printing in a year or two.

I was personally at Stanton Publishing about a month ago and I was told that if it is not out by the end of the year, Bill Fivaz is going to go ahead and knock off JT image..just kidding, but it was the anecdote used. I think he's doing all he can to get it out by then, but when have they hit the mark. Look for a Feb debut.

  • I'm reopening this thread to see if anyone can, at this time, add anything new to this subject: when will the new volume of CPG be available?

Also, someone mentioned to me that Volume 2 might have a "supplemental" list of Lincolns included. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Here is a more recent thread. Nothing new since the October update.

  • I tried to access the "Sneak Peek" area of the CPG site. Suppose to be for people who have prepaid for the book. The link to get an access code was broken, so I emailed JT to try to get a response. (and at least verify that my order was still on file.) Here is his reply.

    Hi Terry,

Thanks for your note. Yes, I do have your order and feel terrible it's been delayed so long.

The update on the web site should have been done a while back. But the friend who is doing this for me ran into some problems himself. The links for the access code and password should be working by tomorrow. Your info is immediately below. However, for a couple of weeks you won't need it to view the listings that are ready. ALL will be able to see them for a very short while. But as soon as I return from FUN more will be finished, and you'll then need the access code and password.

Please let me know if I can do anything else for you. I'll return from FUN Sunday evening, and leaving tonight.

    Access code: XXXXXXXXXX
    Password: XXXXXXXXXX

    Best wishes,

    JT

Thought this may be of interest to some of you.

I pre-ordered my copy last spring. I may not even be able to view it until I get back from overseas in the summer of 2006.
