All-time favorite card?

I suspect that this will be a tough question for most everyone, as trying to pick your favorite, most-loved card is like asking which of your children you love best. That being said, what is everyone's all-time favorite card? It can be your favorite for any reason, from personal ties to flat out great photography.

I'll start it off, and I say it on my 1971 registry, that the 1971 Topps Thurman Munson has to be my all time favorite. The panaromic view, the gritty play, the capturing of the most exciting plays in all of baseball (the play at the plate), and topped off by being in my favorite set, this card easily (for me is my favorite).

Even found a site selling a plaque with the photo...

1971 Munson

Altho not a card, since you mentioned Munson, my favorite auto I have is of Munson - one of the tougher autos to find.

I can't scan it here, but to me it still qualifies as a (big) card. 16x20 Mantle in-person autographed rookie year photo, wearing #6. Sorry, but my personal favorite. Regards.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

I'd have to go with this:

I don't know of many other cards I could possibly get that would top it.
    Who is Rober Maris?

Thanks. I really need to rescan it without all the junk on the scanner and holder. Eventually it's going into PSA for slabbing (it already has a PSA/DNA L of A), after which it is getting scanned one last time, then going into the darkest, most environmentally controlled section of my safe, not to be seen for a while.

Tough call. Today, it's the 1953 Bowman Stan Musial. I don't have one, though. Someday. Of my actual collection, it's my 1933 Sport Kings Ty Cobb (good).

1969 Topps Football #30, Pete Banaszak. Pete is from my hometown, Crivitz, Wisconsin, and he was my boyhood hero. This was the card I was looking for when I started collecting cards as a kid.

While trying to acquire the coveted '77 Carew as kid, I got a '77 Fisk from a pack and it was my favorite card growing up. It ended up getting confiscated in third grade, but eventually I got it back.

EVERYBODY wanted this card in 1984/1985.

It was THE CARD to have and skyrocketed up to around $350-400 at one point.

Then the drugs.......now you can own it for $10.
  • I have 3 which still reminds me of when I first started collecting in 1985/1986.

    1. Roberto Clemente RC
    2. Hank Aaron RC
    3. Pete Rose RC

That 53T Mantle is a beauty - perfect centering and everything! Borderline 8?
I like this card because they don't come around very often. Got lucky and got it in an auction back around 93-4 way below smr or I wouldn't be showin it cause I wouldn't be ownin it!

Thanks, Stone. Your Mickey ain't too bad, either! I love the snowy white borders.

My '53 was raw from its birth until earlier this year, when it spent an unhappy few months as an SGC 88. So you're right, it could have snagged an 8 if the PSA grader was in a particularly good mood. That dang red corner, though ...

  • Can't scan it but I have a 53 Bowman Color PeeWee PSA 8.

Next would probably be my 56 Mantle PSA 8

    Vic
Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
