1864 proof gold

I have almost completed the above Proof set in gold only. I need an 1864 G$1 in Pr 66 or 65 Cam or DCam. If you know of the coin or a dealer who can find one, I would appreciate a PM or reply on this site.

PCGS indicates pop of 3 in 65 DCam, and 3 in 65, with one 66. So they are around, but hiding. To the forum member who flushes it out, and I can buy it, a reward. image

I can't wait til I see the responses to my next one, if I ever have one.

  • A worthy goal to be sure..I tried to do the same for 1862 and quit lacking the 20 and the 1...good luck..

FYI -- We last handled one (in any grade) back in 1998. It was a PR66 from the Trompeter collection. Although now that Doug Winter is with us, the chances of another one crossing our path is improving! Be assured, we'll let you know if we acquire one.

    Reward . . . . Commission . . . . Mark-up . . . . Profit Margin . . . . Whatever. We're pretty flexible with terminology!

Based on what I last saw re Katy's condition, it looks like baby(to be) needs a new pair of shoes may be the "reward"

WOW! That's a great set. Low mintage, Civil War, No Motto, etc. What made you choose that particular year?

What are the grades of the other coins?

    CA or NV side?

    Seth,

Thanks for the wows. It was never intended to be a complete set. But I bought the 5 in proof 65 about 10 years ago. Then 3 years ago the 2 1/2 and 20 became available at about the same time. Then the 10 and lastly, the 3.

    2 1/2 66 DCam
    3 64 Cam
    5 65 DCam
    10 63 DCam
    20 64 Cam

I'm on the Nevada side, about 3 miles from the casinos at S Lake Tahoe

    Dale,

Good luck with the last coin. It's funny, because a client of mine has only one coin, an old holder PCGS PR66 gold dollar. I don't remember the date, but is was somewhere in the mid-1860s. I'll check with him to find out.(It will take awhile.)

Another boardmember, Sunnywood, who is an awesome fellow, built a gold 1877 proof set. Great coins, pedigrees, cameos, etc. Unfortunately the set did not have a happy ending.

NV side? About three months ago I was about this close to buying a house in Tahoe City, didn't work outimage. I can surely see why you live there. I live in the Bay area and try to get up there as much as I can.

    Seth,

I appreciate the effort to contact your client.

Sunnywood is also a friend of mine. I have bought several of his great coins, lib nickels, proof shields, and barber quarters. Every coin was pq for grade. That is some good eye he has. ( And I am aware of what happened to his Gold Proofs after sale )

Sorry to hear you didn't get the home on THE Lake. Keep trying, it's worth it!

    Dale:

What happened to the Sunnywood proof golds? Or, is that confidential?

    Bruce and Dale --
Please allow me to clarify a few things:

"Tree hugger"? I don't think its a secret to those who know my background, but the Timber Industry put me through private schools!
"Profit" and "expect more" are concepts I learned in those schools!
"Pro hobby" was something I didn't fully understand until I met coinguy1!
"Non-Profit" was a concept I didn't experience until I started trading with you and TahoeDale!

PS: If I knew how to use Emoticons, I would have inserted them where appropriate.

    Typetone,

Sunnywood had a great writeup about the set, so its very public. In a nutshell.......NCS, stripped of the original patina, lost pedigrees, NGC upgrades, shiny new coins that made someone alot of $, the coins were ruined, according to Sunnywood, who saw the before and after.

    Dale,

Any pics of your 1864 Proofs?

    Seth,

I found one, the only one bought in auction. The 1864 $3 in Proof 64. See the Heritage Long Beach sale Feb 2003. Lot No. 8192.

If anyone can bring the image here, and/or tell me how to do it, I would appreciate it immensely

  • In keeping with this thread's title, I thought I'd post information about an 1864 Proof $20 we handled earlier this year:

    1864 PROOF $20 LIBERTY

Its just a layout we did to help us market this piece in Coin World and in a couple other places. The coin itself is now long-gone but its history and image is pretty neat (in my opinion).

EDIT: I've been notified that some people are having trouble with the link I provided. It was my first attempt to do something like this so perhaps I did it incorrectly. You may wish to try the following web address instead:

    >>Second, Puff, a loyal Pinnacle customer-thank you for your comments. You've been only dogging me forever too.<<

Yes I am a loyal Pinnacle customer, and for good reason. They are absolutely the most honest and professional dealer I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with, and with the exception of Mark Feld, they will probably get most of my business in the furure.... I'm not saying you're a bad dealer Laura, because I've never had the pleasure, or displeasure of doing business with you, and I respect someone that says what they think, but it's not always a good business practice....... I would imagine as you can see I pretty much say what I think also, because I am beholden to no one, period!image As for as "dogging" you forever that is simply not true. I have had very little to say to you since I have been on these boards, with the exception of probably 6 months or so ago when you attacked Mark Feld for no particular reason...... Matter of fact the last time I commented on one of your comments was "agreeing" with you on a particular matter, of which I can't recall. So don't accuse me of dogging you it just ain't so, or perhaps you're a little bit paranoid?

My main problem with you really is your obvious jealousy of Pinnacle Rarities, and the fact that you don't have the class of a Mark Feld, who is much more kind to you in his remarks than I would, or will be.
