Ive been looking at each coin auction on E-bay for the last few hours and....

I am simply amazed at what some sellers are trying to pull off! This is really the first time I sat and started reading descriptions in each and every U.S. Coin auction (yeah, I know, to much time on my hands). The vast majority of these auctions, were they a company advertising their products on TV or in a magazine would be shut down for deceptive advertising practices. Could you imagine the U.S. Mint making statements like "buy this proof set and you could receive a rare error coin valued at thousands of dollars!" or the local bank charging you extra for a roll of pennies because "you are guaranteed to receive 50 Lincoln cents. Who knows! One may be the coveted 1909-S VDB in MS69 worth a fortune!" Las Vegas slot machines could advertise "the coins paid out by this machine may be worth significantly more than the jackpot we pay, so play now and play often!" It is disgusting to say the least.
One seller is actually advertising unopened 1961 proof sets which says;
Some unusual possibilities which might skyrocket the value of this set include the following:
A PR67 Doubled Die Reverse Franklin Half
$$$ PCGS Price Guide Value = $10,000 PLUS $$$
JUST A FEW Of The DEEP CAMEO COIN POSSIBILITIES Include:
A LINCOLN PENNY Worth $1,950
A Jefferson Nickel Worth $745
A Washington Quarter Worth $400
A Roosevelt Dime Worth $350
I think E-bay owes it to the public at large to restrict such advertising practices as unethical and deceptive and should ban those sellers who engage in such practices, regardless of what type of item they are selling.
Ok I'm done ranting now, and I'm going to go the the race track and watch cars go around in circles for a few hours.

You don't watch too much TV advertising do you?
Welcome to the self appointed Coin Cops !
Feel free to report them to EBAY,just dont expect them to enforce they're own rules !

Well, while not worth a jackpot the machine could've paid out that day. I scarfed this one from the till on a $2.50 payout!
This specimen is not typical of what usually shows up in the till and in itself is not particularly noteworthy. In fact, the till remains empty far more than it fills up. I wouldn't advocate going to a casino to look for rare circulated coins, but it is more fun than and less time consuming than eBay. Sometimes, it's even less costly, from some of the threads I've read here.

It's truly funny, no make that truly sad, that people in this day and age are so wrapped up in their own little world that they refuse to try and teach someone else the correct or accepted way of doing things.
LOL, actually I don't. I watch very little TV, maybe 1 or 2 hours a week at most. Which would explain why I have the time on a weekend evening to sit and troll E-bay auctions.
<< <i>Let me tell you something, if theres even a remote possibility of there being a $9k coin in those sets, you better believe they would all have been ripped open by now. >>
Sometimes they are ripped open and listed anyway.

Hey catfish172, try to remember some of us are on dial-up.
But hey, cool find.
Several people. I live a minute or so from Willow Springs Raceway, also known as the fastest road in the west. Twice a month they host a half-mile paved oval event with several types of cars from Bandelero, Legends, Limited Stock, Super Sportsman to I-4 Modifieds. We have a local kid named Awesome Austin Murphy (16) who is #1 in the National points race for the Bandelero class. He won again last night. Also local favorite in the Limited class, Kelly Whitfield broke the track record and continues to lead the points spread in his class. Great family fun here in the desert!
The Redbook is pretty clear... VF-20 and above should have Liberty plainly visible.
NONE of these auctions did

I think I found my undergraded nugget this weekend.

and I looked through a lot. But its a lot of fun and a great way to learn.
Don't expect Ebay or anyone else to stop the ripoffs, there are plenty doing the same overgrading behind the tables at the shows. Thats why so many coins at the small shows are unslabbed.
