He's a seasoned professional, but there was a slight detail that escaped this Seller when he listed this early Commemorative on eBay this morning.
Commemorative
Can you spot what it is he neglected to leave out and speculate how he decided on his BIN?

You guys are quick! The PCGS price guide places the 2X2 at twice the price of one without.
The 2X2 mintage is extremely small too.
Now, in praise of this Seller I'll also point out that within hours of the auction he had forwarded to me an email letting me know the coin had shipped and he also left feedback.
No wonder he has thousands of feedbacks with NO negatives.

I searched through his stuff and found a lot containing a handful of ungraded modern commems that looked like good submitters for PF68-69DCAMs. Have to wait and see, I guess.
Good shot! RAM that mistake up his......
Is this the state of the...........hobby?
Ah, the golden rule.

Tom, the 2x2 was a gimmick used by the Alabama Committee to increase interest in the commem. The "2x2" was incused into the obverse in only 5000 of the 65000 total minted. It created a rarity right from the outset of distribution.
The "2x2" represents that Alabama was the 22nd state in the union. The "x" represents the Saint Andrews cross which is the cross you know as the one on the Confederate Flag and the Alabama State Flag at the time. Southerners have very long memories when it comes to "War of Northern Aggression".
The idea for the 2x2 was borrowed from the Missouri Commemorative which used 2x4 (actually it was a star between the 2 and the 4) on a limited mintage. Missouri was the 24th state. The Grant Commem which followed the Alabama used the gimmick one last time by adding the "Star" to the obverse. Unlike the Alabama and Misouri, the added star had no symbolic value. Nothing but a sales gimmick pure and simple. The Grant the "Star" version actually was sold separately from the plain version for a premium. The Grant was the last commem to use this type of gimmick.

I saw this when it first came out and I had no idea what the 2x2 meant. Thanks for the info!!
