Tracing a pedigree- 1796 Liberty Cap Large Cent

After 2 years of research and searching, I finally bought a 1796 Liberty Cap large cent last spring. It was a difficult coin to locate in nice condition without paying high retail (in other words, paying way over market value from a dealer who got it in an auction). The problem with '96 caps is that they usually have striking defects (like entire words are missing in the legend), plus most of them are corroded horribly. When a nice circulated example comes up for auction, it isn't unusual for it to sell well above Trends, even if it's a common variety.
Anyway, I finally got lucky and located this S-83, which is a very scarce variety, and it was fairly priced to boot. I bought it from a well-known dealer, but he didn't have any pedigree info. marked on the flip. Now I'm interested in tracing its pedigree, but I don't have a large library of auction catalogs and books to check. If anyone recognizes the coin, or can give me a tip on its history or ranking in the condition census, I'd be really pleased. The best identifying marks are a small nick on the cap, and some light reddish corrosion on the reverse. Thanks in advance for any help you are able to offer.

Hey, they don't even need 100 die varieties to join.
