Anyone know anything about Blanchard?

Maybe I have not noticed it previously, but it seems that Blanchard is advertising more and selling coins in the retail market. I have never dealt with them before. Does anyone have any experience with them? How are their prices and the eye appeal of the coins they sell? Thanks.

Blanchard is one of the largest, if not the largest, retailer of coins in the US. An astute collector would do better to hook up with a couple of dealers in his/her area of specializtion or interest.
  • I bought years ago from them in the pre-grading company era. I bought a raw Saint that was execeptional except I later found out I paid bout $500 premium on it above the going rate. My Mom handed me an ad last week about river boats that was also a Blanchard ad. I was also interviewed by them from a solicitation I picked up off the board across the street. The jest of the interview was getting people's opinions on them...they were getting ready to start a ad campaign. There is a person who works for Blanchard whose last name is Albanese. I was told that there is no relation to Albanese Rare Coins in NY.

These guys come out of the woodwork during the booms, hype gold as an "investment," talk about helping you build your "investment portfolio" at lofty prices, and then crawl under the rock again when things collapse. IMO, one of the signs of a boom market is Blanchard advertising again.

    Keep away.

Blanchard is to the coin business what a “diploma mill” is to academia. They buy and sell and lot of stuff, and they sell it by what is ON the holder, not what's IN the holder.

If you want nice collector coins that are selected for their eye appeal and beauty, Blanchard is not the place to go.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Thanks for all of the comments. They are consistent with what I have heard.
