<< <i>Keep in mind, people, this piece isn't modern junk, it's a "contemporary classic"

"Modern junk" doesn't start until 1965. The '32 to '64 coinage is fundamentally different in almost all ways. It was treated differently at the time of release and since. It was viewed diff- erently by both the issuer and the users. Not only is the basis of currency changed from gold/ silver to silver/fiat but there are even several subtle changes from the addition of designer's ini- tials to the placement of mint marks and the location of proof production and the way all mint coins are made and issued.
Even today most collectors make a distinction between the pre '65 and the later coinage in many ways. There can be some strong arguments made that the '64 issues are really modern junk though. Not only is the '64 Kennedy like the later coins, but many of the modern practices like the production of the SMS sets began in 1964. There are numerous mules of '64 and '65 designs and compositions and the '64 coins were actually struck well into 1965 with a date freeze.
Perhaps this coin really is no more than "modern junk" despite having been struck in January 1964!
