See how good your grading skills are. Winner must give exact grade that was assigned to the coin by the grading company. You are allowed one guess per day. Winner will receive a really nice coin. This coin is a little tricky and Paul and Tim you have seen this coin and therefore are not eligible.

This cent was graded by NCS as UNC Details, OBV improperly cleaned. No numerical graded was assigned. This coin illustrates how tough it is to grade copper. Rick Snow thought the date had been wiped as well as the field to west of the nose and eyes. However a former grader told me he would probably have graded it. 64 or 65 Red would have been appropriate grade for this coin. I am tempted to submit it to a service just for chuckles. It really is difficult to tell. Even in person its tough to see let alone from this photo which is not doctored. Shows just how difficult if not impossible to grade a coin from a photo and illustrates what a difficult job graders have.

Well, I got the 64 RD part, anyway.

(Edit to add: maybe if I wasn't at work, where the monitor has some goofy 256-color setting that makes everything all grainy, I might have spotted the cleaning issues. Maybe.)

Mark/Boiler78 is not only famous and a Cover Boy now (see Coin World), but he's pretty sharp recognizing the NCS holder. From the image I would have guessed it was a dark photo of an NGC slab, hence 64RD rather than RB. In person it's a great looking coin, there are certified IH's out there that look worked on much more than this. Great post as per the difficulty of online grading and grading in general!

I took the photo with just natural light and the holder was sitting in a blue foam rubber chair, so the translucent holder appears darker. Of course if I hadn't the NCS holder would have jumped right out at you.
