Feuchtwanger Cent????

Anyone know anything about this trial composition coin? The local coin deal turned up with one dated 1837. He says it's a 3-D die variety with an R8 rating. From what he tells me it was a trial coin made by a private business for the US government to test nickle/copper composition. The design is very similiar to the F.E. patterns with the eagle flying up. It's an interesting story, but I'm not interested in pursuing the coin. However, I would like to verify the dealer's story as he has told a whopper or two before (although I think he believes them). image
