Personally, I wouldn't dip that coin- not enough upside for me to consider a dip........

Very, Very clean 65 Just not enough hair detail on the bun and average strike on the eagle. Still a PQ 65 in my book
  • I'd say 65 also--but I've got a 35 that looks almost as good and came back from ANACS as a 60--will try to post.

billboat, you bring up a good point, the different years have slightly different strike characteristics, as well as how they tend to be, in terms of bagmarks.

Here's my '35, I cracked this one out of a pcgs MS63 holder, it's in my album now but I think it's a solid 64+

I not sure dipping would remove that type of toning; thus, I wouldn't try.

I agree. MS 65. I noticed the weakness in the strike in the hair/bun too. Moreover, I wouldn't dip. Leave as is.

    BTW I'm no expert.

MS65. It looks like a quick dip would remove the toning. I would dip it if it was in a MS64 holder....MS65 and up I would leave it alone.
  • Looks like a 66 to me--very clean cheek and fields in front of the face. Pretty coin.

I also would not dip it, unless it is a low-value coin. From what I gather, every time a coin is dipped it loses a small percentage of its luster. The stain on the back is not that bad and looks superficial to me. It probably would not bother me.

Sorry, but I had to vote 64 because of flat or weak strike. Im amazed at how hard it is to find a high grade Peace. cheers, alan mendelson
  • I had to vote 64, even though the concensus seems to be 65, as my grading skills aren't very reliable above 64 yet. It's a solid 64, though, that much is certain. I wouldn't dip for that little bit of toning on the back, simply because I don't believe in it. I try not to buy coins with ugly toning unless I have no other choice, but I still wouldn't dip it away.

high jpeg compression it seems, I tried to color correct but wasn't enough data to do a good job. But I would say 65.
  • If it has some hidden marks it MS62 or MS63 or maybe 64, unless it has a little more luster than I can see which would make it a 65 or a lot more luster then it would be a 66.

    Did I cover it ok.

The coin was in a PCGS MS63 holder, before it was cracked and put in the Library of Coins

thanks for your votes and comments, guys, I tend to agree it's fairly PQ for a 63.

If it was my coin I wouldn't dip. It's on the reverse where you don't see it right away, and Peace dollars have fragile lustre to begin with... best not to temp the Downgrade Gods by messing with the coin.
    When in doubt, don't.
