If you have a table at the show please post your table number.

Tempting! I'm off this weekend! image

But that's a long way away, even if it is in the same state. And I'm broke. And I'll likely have Mr. Mom duty while my wife works. image

Another time, perhaps. I could probably squeeze in a whirlwind visit on Sunday but that would be pointless.

  • I'll be there, FatMan. No table though, just going as a collector. I'm going up on Friday morning to hit the goods early. I plan on being there all day; my wife will probably be shopping at the local mall and outlet stores all day anyway. Later in the evening, me, my wife, and a few coin buddies will be getting some dinner and drinks at one of the local restaurants. We'll be talking about coins well into the evening, much to my wife's chagrin. You all are welcome to join us! The more the merrier!
  • Will be going with JoeHolt from the Nashville Area on Saturday.

I look forward to seeing you. Dinner, drinks, and coins sounds great. I'll keep it in mind as I finalize my plans. (read...see if I can get my wife's permission to stay out late or overnight)
  • John,
How far is that from Blairsville?
  • FatManFatMan Posts: 8,977
I would guess about 60-70 miles through the mountains on US 76. Less than 2 hours.
  • I'll try to be there how do I find the show, and you guys?

  • I'll try to be there Saturday as well image
  • I'll finally be well enough to attend a Dalton show. Friday will be my day. I'll be searching for IHC and Lincolns until my body gives up.

Here's a link to info about the show. There's a link at the bottom of that page to a map of where the show is being held.

Like I said, I'll be there on Friday. Sounds like FatMan and PerfectStrike might be there on Friday too. I will be wearing a gray t-shirt with "Ohio State Football" printed in red lettering. I also wear glasses. Most likely I'll be taking a lunch/snack break in the lobby area just outside the main bourse around 1:00 in the afternoon. Either that, or just look for me on the bourse floor. Either way, me and my buddies will be meeting in the lobby around closing time (probably around 5:30 or 6:00). Hope to see everyone there!

Cool! It will be nice to meet a few people from these boards in person! Look forward to seeing you all there on Friday. I hope some of you will look for me (since you know what I'll be wearing) and stop to chat.

No doubt you will stick out like a sore thumb. In fact could result in bodily harm.image

That's part of the fun of attending a large coin show wearing an Ohio State t-shirt. Not only do I have the challenge of finding some great coins, I also have to be on the lookout for rabid UGA and UT fans who want to sack me out of spite and jealousy. ;-) Ain't my fault my team has more twice as many National Championships than both of those schools put together! Ha!

Do you know his table number or something that would let me identify his table on Sat?

I don't have a table number. Look for "Gold Rush Gallery". Or ask anyone if they know who has Dahlonega coins. They will point in the right direction.

    DALTON SHOW ATTENDEES

    REPORT!!

  • I was a bit disappointed with the show. My bankroll was busted so I had 3 goals.

#1 to cherrypick some raw IHC or Lincoln coppers. Darn few nice Lincolns to be had but there were a lot of Indians, mostly overpriced.

#2 find some nice 57 and 58 proofs and check for double die varieties. Didn't find but a handful of 57 & 58 proofs, nothing much to talk about. I did see a 1983 noS proof set, the dime was no DCAM in my opinion and overpriced. I spent most of my time looking at proofs for double dies. I was hoping for some nickel doubles.

#3 was to find a couple CAM candidates in SMS sets. There were maybe 50 SMS sets at the whole show.

On the plus side, there were some very reasonable 2 centers in RB. There were also some awesome NGC FS Jefferson nickels. On the laughable side, there was a whole case of 1961 AT proofs nickels in NTC holders. Musta been 50 of em. My body gave out about 3pm. 5 hours wasn't too bad given I'm still 90 days from surgery.

Just got back from the show. Too tired to write up a report. I'll post something tomorrow. Had a great time and picked up some nice coins. Spent some time with FC57Coins, Tassa, and Dahlonega. Had a great dinner with cratylus, his wife, and some of his coin buddies.

Hope all the Saturday attendees have a good time.
  • I went for a while but unfortunately didn't meet up with any board members. I was too stoked to check out all the dealer's stock. I apologize for not introducing myself at the Dahlonega table- I realize in hindsight that this was probably pretty rude. Anyhow- I scoured each table looking to cherry some nice buffs, but came up absolutely dry! It seems everything had been picked through (variety wise). There was one table with some absolutely gorgeous buffalos (I can't remember his last name, but it was Ed and his son- if anyone knows his last name please let me know). This older gentleman had some very top end coins, including a 15S, 26D, and 36D 3 1/2 legger. The 26D was the finest I have ever seen- mark free, deeply struck, and uncleaned white luster (in my estimation a lock 66). At $10,000 it better be good! All of his coins were raw, but graded right on the mark.

I also saw my first high relief Saint $20 gold piece (other than internet pictures). I fell in love immediately! One dealer had three of them, the best looking of which was a PCI MS62 labeled as "cleaned". I really couldn't see evidence of a cleaning at all. It was a gorgeously struck piece.

I spent a grand total of $2 at the show (the admission price) but would have spent a ton more if I had more than my allowance of $100.
Another note- I saw a slew of buffalos in SEGS holders that looked terrible. If they weren't overgraded by 2 points, then they were AT or polished with the notation "toned". imageimageimageimageimageimage

To me it was worth the 100 mile trip just to see those Saints. As far as activity, it seemed the dealers were either making money hand over fist, or not doing much business at all. Some blamed inactivity on the recent ANA show, however I overheard some dealers who were really selling a ton of coins.

PS- if anyone wants to go by C.C. Coins and bring me back that PCGS MS64 green label buffalo nickel, please feel free- she's a beauty!
  • Who's going today? It would be interesting to see what differences there are in reports for Saturday. I wish I could make it up there again today, but it is too far and I don't have the money for the coin I want image
