I put it next to a penny so you can see the size difference. The coolest part is wondering how it got to Colorado in the first place, and how the store clerk could hand it off without noticing it!!

Found in circulation this year. 111 years since this old Indian found its way out of the mint makes this a cool find.

  • found this today. I know it is in poor condition but it is 100% red (scan doesn't bring out all the color), I thought it was simply painted but after 5 hours in acetone it is still the same red. Any idea what causes this?

Not sure DR, I have one with the same color a 45-D I think. Possible it was underground for a while.

This 1939-S is my first circulation keeper since I decided I was a coin collector again. I'm still lookin' for the '38-S and '39-D to show up in my pocket change.

Keep looking Moe, I've a full roll of circ nickels from each year and mint mark that I've pulled from the change collected out of vending machines.

Please tell me that took a while. A long while.

I am starting to regret the use of chips for the weekly poker game. Back when we used change, I'd pick up a wartime Jefferson or a silver Roosevelt just about every week. Now, the game is just a way for me to dump off my searched rolls in the after-game payout.

No not too long; I find on average 5 pre 1950 nickels a week and at least one war era coin a month. Now most are very worn but once and awhile I find a nice one.

I can't believe you found an 82 no P dime. imageimage I've looked for one of those for exactly 22 years and have never found one. Oh well, I'll find a 69-S DDO 1c... You'll see!image

I have three major Lincoln Cent doubled dies that were found in circulation, the 1980 DDO, 1983 DDR, and 1984 Die 2 DDO (not the doubled ear, FS-039). I purchased them several years ago from Bill & Debbie O'Rourke, authors of the 'Found in Rolls' column in Coin World. I'll try to post some pics tonight.

I found an 1859 IHC in change when I was 17.......very corroded and ugly, but still cool. More recently, I have found a couple buffs, a few wheaties and this dime with a light die clash.

My best circulation finds were an XF 1939-D Jefferson (found early 1990's), and an XF 1935-P Buffalo (mid 1980's). No pics on hand, though. I also found a 1939 doubled MONTICELLO nickel, but the darned thing is only a VG, so the doubling is almost worn away.

Some of the best of the "in change" finds from the last 3 or 4 years. I'm sure most of us glance at the change drawer when we're buying stuff. I seem to have an strange ability to "will" that special looking coin into the cashier's hand and into my change image

The '87 proof quarter was the most glaringly "wrong" looking coin I've ever seen in a till. The cashier had a look of regret after passing it to me. The 1898 indian I got in change at a pancake house at the annual meeting of my metal detecting club. Freaked us all out!

I find a few wheat cents each year, but the 1957-D is at least AU58 if not unc. Really well struck, too, and has just a hint of toning on the reverse, so I felt it deserved it's own 2x2.

I didn't find the 1942 half in change, but I eyeballed it in the yard of one of my rental properties, just waiting for me to pick her up!

Sorry, no pics from here. But, I received an 1895-O Barber Quarter in change in the early 80's. The cashier thought I was going to be mad at her for giving me the "fake" quarter. She thought she was going to get in trouble for accepting it, so she tried to dump it on some unfortunate customer. I'm glad she chose me.image
