I heard her call my name!!!

While walking around at the show on Friday, I suddenly put my hand on my wife's shoulder and told her to stop. I immediately backed up to look at this coin that had caught my eye! Well, turns out that it was at Jade coins. I had to have her for my type set, so I purchased her!!!.image

    Cool coin.

Why do the stars looked like they are stretched out?

That is the sign of a worn die. I'm sure that some of the old timers will concur with that assesment.

    Ken,

welcome to the REAL collector's area.image

Nice looking half. The stars on the obverse (and the letters on the reverse) are stretched to the rims like this due to die wear.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

It is a nice half. I know what you mean about coins that call out to you. Right now I'm trying to win me a 1893 CAM Barber for my birthday. image

Ken: That's a very attractive Capped Bust Half. I hope that you get a lot of pleasure from owning it and including it in your type set.

Nice pickup Ken. It is amazing how certain coins can call to you as you walk by. Many coins in my collection know my name too.

    beautiful coin.

as the dies became worn, the outer points of the stars and upper edges of the letters were "drawn" towards the edge.

often, with a higher grade coin such as yours, there is considerable extra "crunchy" luster about the periphery due to the effect of flow lines from worn dies.
