Three at fault for this. 1. Coinmovers for saying it, 2. PCI for grading it, 3. David Hall for allowing his price guide to be used by scammers.
David, I implore you to clearly identify your CU Price guide as prices for PCGS coins only based upon PCGS strict grading standards and established marketability. Get with your attorneys to come up with correct wording exposing these scamming practices using your guide. Post it on the guide so no-one can miss it.
Every night I light into someone's ace about quoting the PCGS price guide when it comes to anything but PCGS. I've tried EVERYTHING! You cannot compare apples to Oranges, Backberries to Watermelons, VWs to Rolls Royces. Sheeeeut, I even tell them the price guide isn't up to date and if anything to use CW Trends.
I've reported things to eBay with this supposed ANA/ eBay coalition in place, till I'm Blue in the face. Now they are looking for something on me like this one Digleberry from across the street this morning that used the asked the seller a question feature in a vain effort to make me look bad. It blew up in his face and I sent his puppy dog ace packing!
If we don't do it ourselves....and believe me, eBay KNOWS I'm doing it, it won't get done. Rules or no rules I tell eBay that there are a bunch of PCGS Board Members that police these auctions and that we will report them till they get tired of hearing about it! Nobody's kicking me off eBay!
I tell them we need an Immediate Response Team of professional Numismatists from right here if need be, to be empowered to pick up a hot line of sorts, to shut these monkeys down, call local law enforcement and put them behind bars. I even hit them with the "let's restore consumer safety and integrity to Meg's Place" angle and it's always the same od crap. A link and email to this dept or that dept and nothing ever gets done.
I even had one Live Chat operator in stitches when I told him to hold on while I put on my Super Hero Cape! Man, this is like looking up a dead horse's ace with rigormortis already set in! It's still fun to give em hell though! Mild mannered collector/ dealer by day...Harasser of scuzz by night
You will never get the likes of this auction banned. Coinmovers hasn't really done anything wrong here. The fault here lies with PCI and PCGS. Coinmovers doesn't decide the grade, that was decided by a Third Party Grading Company called PCI. Coinmovers doesn't say what the coin is worth, CU does in its celebrated price guide. You and I share the opinion (and knowlegde) the two don't mix but who is ebay to argue with PCI and CU.
Again, I put the blame right on HRH. His price guide does not state that the prices are for PCGS only. Without that disclaimer he is an active player and just as guilty in my mind.
I agree whole heartedly Fat man. HRH need something like the NFL disclaimer"...such and such is the sole property of PCGS. Any reproduction or use without the expressed written permission of PCGS is strictly prohibited." If they want to compare their wares to PCGS standards then, by God, let them put the stuff in PCGS holders! Copyright infringement of sorts.
I took a look at their auction and can find nothing wrong with it, they've said everything pretty much on the up and up. For as long as they have been around, to have the reputation and the #s they have, it appears they're doing something right.
Mikey, yes i bought a coin from them months ago. yes i paid too much. did it hurt ? not really ! do they sell overgraded and over hyped crap ? yes ! should they be allowed to rip off the un-suspecting ? ABSOLUTELY NOT !
