When you send freebies do you expect a reply?

Am I the only one that wants to hear from the recipient? Not talking about a sale--just a "thought you'd like this" kind of gift. Mainly YNs that I've tried to give a little extra to--or am I old fashioned in expecting some sort of response?

    A reply would be nice.

  • I think there is no doubt that it would be polite for the recipient to respond with a thank you and acknowledgement. Our society is not always as polite as it should be, though. image

  • I always try to reply. As I have told my kids time and time again, politeness is the grease our society slides along on.
  • I pretty much always send at least a Thank You PM... image And sometimes also a public Thank You on the Forums... image I've also tried to give back too, by having my own giveaways and sending little things to other forum members... image

A thank you is alway nice. You might call it "common courtesy."

  • A thank you is always nice, but I have learned not to expect it. We oftentimes include a freebie or provide free shipping for our repeat customers. I think in the 100 times we've done this, we've received 1 thank you. But I did notice that those customers come back over and over again and tend to purchase more than one item. That in itself is a type of thank you. Sometimes you just have to take what you can get.image

A "thank you" is always appropriate, at the least.

I sent a bunch of old copper coins to a lady so she could give them to YN's at some coin shows, and I had to e-mail her about 3 times to even find out if she got them. It's just rude to NOT send an acknowledgement of some kind.

Common courtesy would dictate that one should thank another for a smooth completed transaction, and even more so if they included a freebie with the shipment...

  • I've probably given away over a hundred items to people on these forums, and have only once not recieved a thank you! And, that was by a high post count person whom you would think would be the first to say thanks!

In an ideal world, they would reply to a freebie with a "thank you" and be inclined to "pass it forward"

however, the world being what it is, sometimes you get a "whatever"

I recently sent one of the board members young daughter a group of coins and got a wonderful letter back
from her. It's responses like hers that makes me want to keep helping the young collectors.

I always send a thank you PM when I recieve anything from board members...bought or freebies. Its not alot, considering they went out of thier way to do something nice. I should prob. write them a personal thank you letter, but I normally just drop em a thank you PM. Not old fashioned at all...I still have to call women "mam". Even though they get offended up where I live now!
  • As a YN myself, i always try to say thank you for anything i recieve, freebie or not. If i haven't thanked you for something i've recieved please remind meimage
