Which do you think is more desirable for a given coin: PCGS MS68 or NGC MS69? This Isabella Quarter

Check this out...

PCGS MS68 (was NGC MS69!)

Either way, it's a pretty nice commemorative. I think I would have left it in its MS69 holder. How about you?

I don't know. I would think the blemishes in the toning might have knocked it down a point as far as eye appeal goes. It's such a thin
line between 68 & 69 I'd have to see it in person.

I would only assume from some of the posts I've seen here in the forums, that if it were in an NGC 69 holder, most of us would've figured it
would be 68 in a PCGS holder.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • Wow! That looks a lot like the one I used to own, only mine didn't have any toning breaks.

I really miss her, I should never have sold this coin. If I did still have it I could have presented a much better image of her too.

I thought the MS67 was more attractive in the catalog.

With regards to the original question.... it depends. But if it's the acclaimed finest known at either service, does it really matter?

Well, that's true when they're at the same grade, but not so much when they're a grade apart and the coin is nice.

that's a stunning coin. the grade on the plastic is utterly irrelevant.

Yes, I agree. If you have an Isabella quarter that is THIS nice, it should not matter to a REAL collector what grade the services put on it.

The only people who care are the registry cowboys who are more interested in the number of points they get for the competition than the coin itself. That's sick IMO.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • Hi, everyone. I'm new here. I have to agree that this coin is gorgeous. I would have left it in the NGC holder. however. This coin speaks for itself and will have just as much appeal in any holder (be it an MS68 or MS69). Just my humble opinion.

  • Take a look at how many commems NGC has graded as MS 69 and then take a look at how many coins PCGS has graded as MS 68.

    That should help somewhat.
  • Thats a pretty neat looking coin..it would be hard to part with it..
