  • I wish 20 cent pieces were my thing. That's a very interesting mintmark variety. My take is that it looks more like a doubled min

Although it is difficult to determine from your picture, we'll assume there is a doubling visible on the upper serif of the "S".

There are four varieties of the 75-S mintmarks. Both Spadone and Breen are incomplete (which is not surprising due to their age).

    The four varieties are:

    Clear S - (67%)
    Dramatic S/S, nicknamed the $ mintmark - (18%)
    Filled S/S - (7%)
Clear S/S (very minor repunched mintmark) - (9%)

Percentages represent approximate populations based on a sample of about 200 pieces.

Your coin is a Clear S/S (see assumption above). While a "scarce" variety, it does not command a premium. The only variety that does occasionally command a 10-20% premium is the so-called $ variety (although these can be cherry-picked quite easily).

Note: Based on Breen's catalog, your coin is a "Clear S" (3874) as Breen did not consider the minor repunched mintmark to be of note (or he just did not recognize it) so the "Clear S" and "Clear S/S" were lumped together.

Now you need to find the others!

I would have seen it as a filled S variety and left it at that.

It's an RPM. I have an identical coin to yours.
