Well PAndrews...I sure hope you're in a safe area well removed from flood plains, streams or ocean...be sensible and evacuate if you have that choice.

On the other hand, I always wished I could be in the middle of a hurricane ( in a safe place, of course ) as it must be awesome...I get to enjoy the rare Noreaster snowstorms from time to time that bring 2 feet of snow and that is way cool ( no pun intended ).

    Be safe...and save those cards!!!!image

Virtualizard is in the south Tampa area.Haven't heard from him but he might be under that mandatory evacuation deal.I am in the far NE corner and we are starting to get pretty wet.Tornadoes warnings are up and one touched down a little west of Jacksonville, about 25 miles away.I guess that we will probably get a ton of rain and wind.Guess I will batten down the hatches and ride this one out even though it doesn't look like it will hit us too bad.

Well we in Savannah Ga and so far we have seen nothing but some heavy rain from Bonnie, Charley may be another story depends on its exact approach and what happens if it gets back over the Atlantic

Looks like a couple of wet days at the start of my vacation in the Outer Banks. If you're going to drive 10+ hours, might as well do it in the rain. image

i'm in Lakeland, almost dead center between Tampa and Orlando, and have had nothing but sun all day, no rain, wind, nuthin!! i work outside, and there was NO breeze at all, almost like it was all sucked up by the damn storms. i'm bracing for it though. took me 35 freakin minutes to get gas, and another 40+ minutes sitting in the drive thru line to cash my check. looks to be a rough one, but us Floridians are used to it, like people in Cali are prepared for quakes. i'm with my bro PANDREWS though, i'm bidding pretty high on a few items cuz i may be without power for a couple days. GOOD LUCK to everyone in the path of these damn things!!

thanxs brother! from the way it looks like its coming, we are gonna get hit hard. looks like i'll get a whole side of Charley. its almost better to get hit dead on, atleast with the center 'eye' passing through you get some sort of break for a little while. it's like a massive tornado that lasts for hours. i've been through a few in my 23 years in FLA.

    thanx again STONE!!

I used to live 30 min. near Tampa [a town called Plant City], but moved a few years ago. If I were there now, I guess the hurricane would be hitting the area pretty hard. Good luck to all who are in its way.

AJBRY, of course i've been to the strawberry festival!! Plant City's only 10-15 minutes away. My pops is a firefighter in PC, he's captain of the firestation off of Alexander Street. luckily i get in for free when he's working overtime at the fair. as for Charley, it hasn't come yet, they are expecting it to start around noon tomm, with the eye making landfall above Tampa (in Tarpon Springs) around 2 pm. hopefully the clown that i call boss will realize that his employees have families too, and will let us leave before it gets to bad.

HELIONAUT, that's good that she's evacuating. anywhere on the west coast, especially by ST Pete/Tampa is gonna be bad news. they (sheriffs office) are talking about doing neighborhood checks, and anybody that had a mandatory evacuation that refused to leave, will be placed under arrest and taken to jail, or what they call 'safe shelter'.

whew.. we had some serious tornado action over here.. actually, at my aunt's house.. i went over there to look at the damage.. her house is ok, but theres not a tree left in her yard.. HUGE pecan trees toppled, most of them were yanked up at the roots, but one of them was actually TWISTED around and snapped.. quite a scene.. thats why my last post is edited and blank.. i was gonna try to post a picture that i took with my cellphone, but i was unable to..

We are here just North of Orlando in Lake Mary. We'll be getting the worst of it in about 3-4 hours.
We like a good storm (as long as no ones hurt of course). Local weather stations are debating whether we will be getting 50 mph winds or 100 mph winds. I personally have been living in Florida a good long time and have been waiting that long for a good storm.

Storm track shows it heading right up I4 over us and to Daytona. Good luck to you all!

I live right on the beach in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. It was noisy for only an hour or so and did no damage at all.It was really scary to see all the destruction and I will say a prayer tomorrow for all those affected.Us NE Florida boys should get together sometime and have a beer.

From what I gather, you live in Riverside or Avondale...I haven't worked in that part of town in 3 and a half years. Unless you live around Ft. Caroline/Kernan, I plead innocent. As for '98-'01 when I worked in Riverside, I may have to plead the fifth...image

No sooner than we finish having mandatory overtime...then here it comes again! The pay is good, but it certainly wears you out.

If it hits near Jacksonville,I'm going to be waiting out the storm in my house (which is fortunately in one of the areas not in any evacuation zone). It's made out of cinderblock, and I had the foresight to pay somebody earlier in the summer to come over and cut all the weak/dead branches off my trees.

Good luck to all of my fellow Florida residents.

I think the feeling right now it is going to brush the Florida coast and make landfall between Charleston and Jacksonville.. I am in Savannah so we are watching this one very closely, weather channel just said that the Savannah area need to be fully prepared for this one..

I have kind of been in the hurricane business for the last six years so I'm ready. Got the rope and when the wind picks up I'll lash myself to a palm tree and ride it out.
Didn't even get the car back from the body shop yet after the last one. 3 grand in damage from a huge pine tree that chose to fall and land on the hood.
The official forecast brings the storm in near Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach and it crosses the state just north of Tampa. The central part of the state that was hit by Charley may get it again.
Now - that is the official forecast. I have a source that puts landfall at Ft. Lauderdale and exits into the Gulf at Ft. Myers (my home).
It is still too early to tell.

Good luck everyone. The wife and I came 10 miles from 140 mph winds in Charley three weeks ago. Let's hope for more good luck this time.

It is funny how the official forecast varies from area to area right now. Locally they are telling us to be ready for a fairly direct blow from this storm, but are waiting til tommorow to decide on evacuations since if it does come this way it will be Late Sunday or Monday. I think right now there are so many models saying it is going to do so many different things that they are just warning everyone who has a distinct chance of being affected to be prepared which is for the best..

Charley skirted us here by about 10 miles as well
